It stands in stark... contrast to Israel’s “explicitly genocidal end state,” which Jeremy described as a plan where “Palestinians must either bend the knee and live as indentured servants under a religious supremacist regime, or be forced off their land, or be dead.” As Jeremy put it, summarizing how Hamas officials framed their vision: “We’re not telling Jewish people that they need to leave. We’re not trying to create a religious supremacist ethnostate. We want democracy. We want democracy from the river to the sea. That’s the position.” In his meetings with senior Hamas officials—including Osama Hamdan—Jeremy also raised the question of a two-state solution. He said he expected Hamas to reject it outright, given decades of displacement, land theft, and Israel’s long record of undermining Palestinian statehood. But Hamdan told him Hamas would not oppose a two-state deal based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, if it reflected the will of the Palestinian people and came with international guarantees of full sovereignty and equal rights.
