We are focusing on the root causes of the stress and trying to weed it out bit by bit. Frank is going to make a big effort on the mental aspect of this journey. Frank averaged over 18K steps per day for the month. He is definitely building muscle, but if he can stay consistent on diet he will shrink under 300 pounds. Breaking bad diet habits (a lifetime of them) is incredibly hard and setbacks are inevitable. I try to emphasize to Frank that it’s not about achieving perfection, but rather how you respond to the setbacks. Tough month, but with warm weather coming, I predict a big start to the spring. January has been brutal for walking outside in NYC & Chicago. But no excuses, he got the work done. Frank has increased his average daily step count to 15K+. It’s also obvious that Frank is building muscle and his entire body composition and athletic ability is transforming before our eyes. This could also partially explain the extended plateau over previous months. His diet struggles are an ongoing war of Frank vs Frank, but he is making strides in the right direction. Frank has 45 years of terrible eating habits, so changing it in a sustainable way has been incredibly difficult … but he is turning a corner. 🚨WEIGH IN 28🚨 BEST WEIGH IN YET!!!!!!!! •284.2 pounds (ATH 530+) •Blood sugar: A1C 5.4% (ATH 11.1%) •Frank has lost 245+ pounds overall (and is carrying 20-40 pounds of excess skin) Frank has been lifting weights three times a week with me since Arnold Schwarzenegger got him started over Christmas. His progress has been fantastic and we can already see improvements in his functional strength. He is also using treadmills occasionally, a machine he used to fear like the plague. The gym once seemed impossible to Frank, now it is part of his routine. The weight lifting is already adding muscle which adds bodyweight as he drops fat. This means his weight loss slowing down is not a regression, his body is transforming from Frank the Tank into Frankie Fitness. It’s been incredibly impressive and painful to join Frank on 3 mile walks through this brutal winter. It’s making him crankie, but it’s still impressive as hell that he’ll never miss a day. Today, we filmed our first ever Frank Lifts with Joba Chamberlain, which showcased Frank’s confidence and comfortability in the gym after just a few weeks. It is hard to imagine what the final outcome will be, knowing Frank is committed to fulfill his promise to Arnold: “INSPIRE MILLIONS!” Crazy to think if Frank got skin surgery done he might 242 pounds! He doesn’t need me or anyone else to encourage him to walk: he gets it in every single day. No excuses, he’s addicted. His body has transformed beyond weight loss. He can fit in booths, manage stairs/hills, and has new levels of stamina enabling 3 hour walks. Hell, he is even practicing jogging at this point. The challenge in 2025 will be matching his walking discipline with diet discipline. Late night snacking, soda, and salt intake are some of the primary obstacles. Frank is generally eating and drinking significantly better than his past, but the starting point was so horrible we still have a ways to go. Mitigating late night snacking is our biggest focus this month. This journey is not simple or easy, but it is real. The diet struggles are probably relatable to many. We are focused on continuing to overhaul his diet and talk about it almost daily. I am sure I am annoying at times, but Frank needs to be pushed and challenged. If he is capable of completely changing his daily physical habits, he is capable of changing his diet. It has simply proven to be much more challenging. A couple of the biggest struggles are stress eating and discipline on boring days at home. Frank will crush unhealthy snacks after a Mets loss or if he is stuck in his house on a boring weekend with bad weather. He shot up to 315 this month but then locked in to close the month at an all time low. To anyone who makes food in the Belleville, NJ area, I am desperate to show Frank he has local options that cook both delicious and relatively healthy food. Same goes for anyone near MSG (lunch after walks). Frank’s energy, quickness, coordination, stamina, strength, flexibility, and confidence continue to increase with each passing step. Frank is disappointed but knows he screwed up on diet this month and is owning it. Mikey and I are working hard on a plan. I do my best to remind Frank that if we zoom out, his progress is extraordinary and he continues to improve muscle growth, stamina, and overall athleticism everyday. And add YEARS to his life. Most people who lose a lot of weight struggle to keep it off. This is his 3rd lowest weigh in of 19. This is a lifetime sustainability mission, not a diet with a specific weight target. Lots of game left. The greatest reward of this crazy adventure is when we hear from Tank’s Army all kinds of stories of people who have decided to start walking or exercising because of Frank. This hasn’t been a story of easy win after easy win and the Frank Walks community has helped immensely, thank you. We have had setbacks and extremely tough stretches, but Frank always responds. That should be the key takeaway of this story: no matter how down you are, there is always an opportunity for redemption. Examples: less soda, smaller food orders, less junk food / snacking, more BodyArmor water - this is the biggest challenge ◦Physical changes: Frank’s mobility, flexibility, endurance, and energy continue to improve daily. ◦Sugar levels remain in the green zone. Last year at this time his A1C was at 9.2 it is now down to 7.5 ◦Frank can now fit into 3XL jerseys for the first time in 20+ years. Stairs are also becoming less of a burden for him. For example, he said entering the ring at RNR 23 was easy unlike the past Thank you to Tank’s Army and beyond for the relentless support. Frank is trying to show the world that anyone can change their health and habits with consistency and incremental improvements rather than extreme unsustainable action. Frank is down 43 pounds since we started walking and the formula has been simple: we walk everyday and don’t stop until Frank hits 10k steps + incremental improvements on Frank’s diet. The secret sauce is NO DAYS OFF. And as Frank always says, “If I can do it, you can do it.” I think my favorite part of weigh in day is how quickly Frank moves on from the good news.
