"He doesn't just play a good pass that pulls them apart, he then backs it up...I thought Nyoni was excellent." "It's passes through the lines, getting the ball to our dangerous players...trust young players and they might surprise you." 🎧 Post-Match Show

It’s quite funny. When the kids went off and the first team replaced them, I became far more nervous.

The thing about Nyoni is, he has a lax 15 minutes where he thinks the players around him are as good as him. They’re just not as good as him.

McConnell and Nyoni made Gravenberch and Szoboszlai look shite in comparison

I think he deserves the chance to get a few starts. He was our best player yesterday imo

Was disappointed when Nyoni and McConnell came off. They were solid in MF

Nyoni was excellent. He smells danger and is in the right place at the right time. He’s constantly looking forward with passes as well. But when he passes, he moves to form a an angle for a return pass if needed. With him there and Mac ahead of him, we looked so well balanced. Mac is a 10. Was superb there for Brighton. He hasn’t the pace or legs to play a 6 or 8. But he presses high up which is what we need.

As soon as he went off we starting getting massive gaps in midfield again he was superb

I felt a lot less comfortable after he was subbed off. Based purely on the season so far, there's no reason why he couldn't be a starter within a few months.

The lad speaking on Nyoni saying he wasn’t physically mature enough was well off it, that was a physical midfield he held his own against last night.

Sweeney on how the path Hagens took benefited him: "I think it's important. I think he sent a message to other players that have taken that route...Our guys made a point of saying they thought it was great that he decided to go start there, rather than just assume that he was going to jump into a lineup and help us get into the playoffs... "Our development staff and coaches down there, the messaging that was coming back, that he was listening, he was applying, and then the skill set we're all excited about. So now it's a great opportunity, not unlike Charlie a bunch of years ago, that he is now an option for Marco, if, when and where he wants to play him. That's how we had hoped it would play out. But it's always up to the player to take advantage of the opportunity."

KIDS: You can't give a good player a bad pass. In practice - when you get a bad pass from a teammate - GOOD! It's an opportunity to make yourself better. Players at the highest levels can catch any pass put in their area whether it's on their tape or not. Check out the replays of Pastrnak's second goal last night and how seamlessly he gets the puck from skate to stick and into the net. This takes an incredible amount of skill and reps to get good at. When I was at Michigan, I probably passed Adam Fantilli thousands of pucks for shots. He never wanted a pass on the tape. He wanted them everywhere so he could work on corralling bad passes and getting it off his stick fast and accurately. 30 goals last year in the NHL. I see too many kids get upset when they receive bad passes. It's an opportunity to get better! And when you watch NHL games these players are so good at it.

The reason Ruben Amorin needed “legs or ground eater” was because he never believed in players playing close to one another and keeping the ball for a long time. We often launched the ball to our strikers to beat press, he did the same at Sporting CP with Gyokeres and that caused our team needing to run so much because when we lose the second ball, we were in trouble.. It’s more about athleticism to him than techniques.. He never wanted players that are comfortable on the ball instead he likes players that can pick long passes so they can move the ball as quickly forward as possible and that’s why he never rated Mainoo.. Now Carrick has a different approach to football which is for players to play close to one another, take regulated and calculated risk instead of throwing the ball in the air at every chance which limits his need for “ground eaters” and increases his needs for actual ballers, guys that are comfortable on the ball and know how to pass it at the same time.

Jorge Jesus was asked about Bruno Fernandes' performance in the post-match press conference by PortuGOAL correspondent Matthew Marshall. JJ's response: "Bruno Fernandes played a better 2nd half than he did in the 1st. During the interval I told him the team needed more from him. "I ask and demand certain things from my players in that position and I felt they weren't happening in the game. That's why I said to Bruno, 'Bruno you have do do more of this, this and this beacuse if you don't do it in your position, our game won't work out so well.' "And in the second half I believe, and you also certainly believe, he was much better, he was crucial. He played a remote-controlled pass for Vitinha's goal. "And he was better; he was in that space that seems to belong to nobody, but for those players who know how to exploit it, it's very important. "He was very good in the second half."

Excellent example, without players like Modric and Benzema. This is another wasted chance. The pass to Modric was heavy, the entire PSG defense line came back, but he found a pass through to Benzema.

Whenever I see this goal it just makes me miss Modric more. The way he dragged 3 Liverpool players out of position and then hit them with that reverse pass. This was a master at work.

One thing Lane Johnson emphasized that young tackles often miss: Pass protection is not just getting into your set. It is route concepts, QB depth, defensive copy, set lines and staying choreographed with the players around you. Really good teaching section here from our Pass Pro Lab conversation.

Ben Johnson on Rome Odunze's Performance Monday and so Far: "I don't say a word to him. He knows, catch the darn ball, and we keep it moving from there. So, nothing needs to be said in that regard. I would say that I think probably all of our pass catchers right now are all chomping a little bit to get fed a little bit more, and I think that's a good thing. It's on me as a play caller to make sure that they all are getting the ball distributed to them, and then our quarterback's got to do a great job. They got to continue to play the game and take what's given to them. I think it's more on me than anything else just to make sure that everyone's getting the touches that they deserve." Keep your head up Rome 🫡

Amorim ball is just touch, pass and move to create space in between the lines, this is what The United players deemed so difficult to adapt. In yesterday’s pre season game, I saw Modric play this kind of touch and pass football and it was so nice.

Eagles WR A.J. Brown: "Me personally, I truly believe we've got so many good players on this team and at times you can feel like we're being conservative and I don't think it should be like that...Let your killers do their thing and play fast and play aggressive. Not saying that we haven't been, but me personally that's what I would like. Obviously, we're going to run the ball and we're going to set up the run off the pass and the pass off the run, but we have a lot of good players and we should just let them go."
