HELP PLEASE! From my ride yesterday, this question really does need sorting urgently — can a driver turn left across a cycle lane on the basis that the approaching cyclist should be sensible enough to stop in time?

"sensible enough" to see a vehicle's intention of turning left, therefore I will be "sensible enough" to stop peddling, let gravity slow me down, allow the vehicle to proceed left, creating a clear road ahead for me... and everyone is "sensible enough" to carry on...

The aspect here being it is clear the vehicle ahead is signalling an intention to turn left. Your approach should be with caution, to avoid possible injury or death. Alternatively you could have gravestone reading "it was my right of way".

As a cyclist, whilst I might be in the 'right' I'm also the one who will come off worse in a collision...so I slow down, wave them to turn and continue.

Instead of slowing down as you can clearly see him starting to turn you decide to toot your little air horn and carry on riding a game of chicken with a lorry…..then post it online 🤷🏻‍♂️ what a hero 🤦🏻‍♂️

Just adjust your speed for 2 seconds,no need for the confrontation at all here.

I’m 100% convinced you put yourself in these situations to cause a conflict for “clout”. Bit sad really isn’t it!?

If cycle lanes are to be used as much as we want them to be, then drivers may find themselves waiting for a never ending stream of bikes to come up the inside of them. This will clearly cause incidents.

No it won't. They'll have to wait.

The answer is in the question. The driver clearly signalled so it was reasonable for you to anticipate his next action. You were aware but he may not have seen you. Best assume he hasn’t and take action to ensure your own safety unless your intention is to play victim.

Sweet Jesus… 🤦🏻‍♂️ how about we put you in a car, lorry or van Jeremy and send you out to get around London everyday? I can imagine there would be grid lock in no time while you sit and wait to turn left for hours 🤦🏻‍♂️
