Here is a Tesla Cybercab being very timid about making a right turn at a stop sign. An impatient driver goes around the car. But obviously the machine does not road rage. Cybercab could have been more aggressive in taking this turn though

So to other car overtakes the cybercab to win 5 seconds… Okay.

yeah exactly 😂 Human drivers are idiots

Yes. Been driving on FSD in Belgium for three months now and that’s my conclusion as well. Humans are always in a hurry and doing stupid things.

Looking at the condition of the other car I would guess he’s made some poor decisions

Robotaxi = follow rules of the road Human driver= impatient idiot Me watching this video PRICELESS !!! 😃

The cyber cab did exactly what a good driver would do.

I think the beauty of not even driving is not having to react to road rage. It’s like you don’t really have to care since you aren’t even driving 😂

That video is a prime example of why autonomous vehicles becoming the vast majority of vehicles on the roads can’t come fast enough. In the US, we avg ~115 traffic deaths and ~16,500 traffic accidents EVERY day. More than 90% of accidents are caused by human error or judgement. The cybercab is clearly on the safest mode in the early stage of public operation, so it will be conservative. The human driver, otoh, not only endangered him/herself, but also the cybercab passenger and the oncoming traffic vehicles. All to save perhaps 15 seconds. Autonomous vehicles operating in a world full of bad human drivers is the hardest part of autonomy…

That other driver didn’t have room to merge either! 😅

I have FSD, it drives like an extremely cautious driver. I have to press on the pedal when it has a respectable window to get in, go forward, merge or proceed on when I want. That’s why the majority of my interventions, is due to the slowness or lack of speed on its decision making.

It’s driving super safe and it should be. If anything happens, it will be blow out of proportion

Cybercab did thre right thing. The other driver almost became a statistic causing through traffic to have to slow down due to impatience. Sit back, relax, and let the car drive.

rather be timid than get rear ended and be blamed for not giving way… just saying 🤷🏻♂️

true

Looks like it did it perfectly

Seems like a typical Texas driver. Texas drivers are idiots.

My FSD model Y came to a full stop at a stop sign. The car behind me honked and then tried to go around me until an oncoming car in cross traffic almost hit him. I find a lot of humans are not very good drivers.

I can underatand this behavior on a fwd cybercab, but FSD on a dual motor and up should be more confident about cutting in.

Tesla is to cautious and it sucks to wait for no reason. In most cases there is plenty time that even a semi truck could’ve merged in.

One thing as a human you learn not to trust people's turn signals. I learned this as a cyclist and driver. Patience is key with for nice open gap.

It did it only when incoming traffic allowed it. The more aggressive human driver made the incoming car to brake.

Love it, karma that he then also have to wait 25 seconds before he finds a gap... and he then cuts off the traffic 😅

no way it could have gone before it did.

yeah i got that by myself but we have no way to know if it was any different and i believe it wasn’t much different 🙂 i do believe that the CC took the necessary safety behaviour a sane human would and i believe you exaggerate🙃 why didn’t you just tap the accelerator pedal? 😛

For me, that’s the perfect decision by the Cybercab. In the UK 🇬🇧, you’ve got to wait for your turn without forcing your way in even if it seems you’re waiting for too long. Great job @Tesla Team.

A regular human driver, having gotten used to the instant torque of a Tesla, would’ve totally gone way earlier and way more aggressively. But when you’re trying to appease regulators who want perfection when avg humans are by far worse drivers overall, you drive like this

It even took the other car a while and it seems like he made the other car slow.

had the person who pulled around you been hit, then the video would have been extolling the virtue of patience. The person that pulled out did not care if the oncoming traffic had to brake.

Imagine it went when you said and the car you pulled out in front of brakes slightly. You’d have that reported to the national news for dangerous driving and cutting off right of way traffic. I’d rather have a safer driver than an aggressive driver for sure, I don’t need to save 30-60 seconds, I’d rather finish my project while my car gets me there safely and autonomously.

sorry should have been more clear. The car had waited a while before the video started. It had chances to go then

I believe this actually, but did you know Tesla got it trouble for “California stops” meaning not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign. It’s now changed, and now Teslas stops completely I believe. I believe the law says you have to stop for 3 full seconds before going at a stop sign. That’s a rule for humans because it’s takes longer for us to visually see distance to speed, can’t rely on distance if the right of way car is going 120 miles per hour. We have to give our slow human brains a second to process how fast they are coming up to a junction. But yeah, even Tesla has been known to skip a few regulations to speed up the process, but then they are hit with panic and reminders why we shouldn’t trust FSD which is fine, but then we get both sides of the problem. Still prefer safe, especially when we are still trying the influence the public to trust autonomy.

And this is why it is safer than humans. No floor it to fit in a gap that makes others brake.

The alternative would be “Cybercab way too aggressive when making this right turn”. There will always be people who will find faults in this system. Even when the day comes when they are faultless.

The talking guys are wrong there is NOT enough space to go because the speed is of the passing cars is quite high

Matches Full Self Driving (FSD) on retail Telsa's... it behaves quite cautiously during turns like this. (Fine with that tradeoff, but I'm sure it'll be tweaked in the future.)

Hood smashed car... Sure is a good driver

What a garbage driver, cut in front of a car and make him hit his brakes. Drives a POS car and probably lives a POS life which is much deserved

IDK, seemed to do the right hing there. I'm sure the policy is always err on the side of caution. That's definitely the right thing to do

What a pilllock. Humans really have no place driving on public roads. I include myself in that group.

I've had a similar experience with FSD in Belgium

There's such a thing as failure to yield. Near certain that car could have been ticketed by a police officer unless Texas is vastly different somehow.
