The Tesla Cybercab is on tour in Australia 🇦🇺 This is the future of rideshare and taxi trips. I got to see this one on display at the Tesla Alexandria location in Sydney today. Looks awesome in person. Super sleek and there's actually a huge amount of leg room on the inside. No steering wheel, no driver. It offers a convenient and private way to get around without having to get in a car with a stranger, which I like. Let's get these on roads everywhere.

I just don’t see a future where Uber, Lyft, and even Waymo can compete with Tesla Robotaxi. As a passenger, there’s no experience close to what Cybercab provides. It’s cheaper than an Uber, and feels more like an extension of your living room than just a taxi ride. In the video below, I watched the entire SpaceX Starship docuseries during my ~45 min Cybercab ride in Austin. From a manufacturing and production standpoint, Tesla will scale to rolling a Cybercab off the production line in 10 seconds or less. Tesla builds the core pieces in-house…batteries, AI software, hardware, compute etc. Other companies can’t say the same thing.

People forget Tesla is just as much a hardcore software company as it is a hardcore hardware company. You feel it the second you use the Cybercab. The software is buttery smooth. Everything responds instantly. And bc the Cybercab has cameras surrounding the car, it can constantly see what’s happening around it. The software takes all of that camera data and turns it into a real-time understanding of the world around the car like vehicles, people, roads, obstacles. You can literally watch that digital world being built around it on the screen as you ride. Hardware + software + AI, all built to work together. That vertical integration is Tesla’s superpower. That’s the part people miss.

Imagine an electric vehicle and you never have to think about charging it? Tesla handles it all. Some people can’t afford a Tesla but I paid less than $20 a ride on average to experience the future. This makes it accessible to literally everyone. Rich or poor, you can experience the Tesla Cybercab. You just have to get to Austin, Texas. Hours are 6am–10pm. After 10pm we took a Waymo. Never again. Waymo is no comparison to the Tesla Cybercab. Just took my first ever Unsupervised Tesla Model Y Robotaxi ride in Austin. To sit in the back seat of a car that I own, while nobody is in the front seats and it’s driving itself, is a pretty wild feeling. Cybercab tomorrow is gonna take it to the next level.

This was a brand-new production Tesla Cybercab being delivered for the opening of the Cybercab event. What a thing of beauty. The moment I laid eyes on it, I fell in love. Seeing the Cybercab in photos is one thing. Seeing a production Cybercab right in front of you is completely different. This thing is absolutely beautiful.

HW4 Model 3s and Model Ys will get it first. Tesla says it is "very close" to being unlocked in customer cars. It will be available for purchase outright as a $10,100 option, or through a subscription model. Tesla hasn't released the subscription price yet.

Jeff Lutz 🔋's point is that the whole package matters! Tesla isn’t just building autonomy. It has the software, the cars, the customer experience, FSD sales, and now Cybercab all working together. Other companies can build impressive self-driving tech too. But the real question is whether they can turn it into a business that actually scales and makes money. I’m sitting here with no steering wheel, no pedals, my feet kicked out, music playing… and the entire cabin is moving with the song. The light bar across the dash pulses with the beat. The floor lighting reacts with it too. It literally feels like I’m having my own little party while the Cybercab drives itself through Austin. No driver, no one to tell me to turn the music down. Just me, my music, the lights, and Tesla’s software handling the entire ride. That’s what makes the Cybercab so much fun. The Tesla team thought about what it should actually feel like when you no longer have to drive. You can relax. Stretch out. Listen to music. Watch the city go by.
