Housing is a human right. No one in this city should have to worry about losing their home or end up on the streets due to systemic issues. Homelessness and the housing crisis are not two different problems, they are two sides of the same coin. And they have the same solution – permanent affordable housing. Trickle down economics is a fallacy. The market cannot provide affordable housing. Prices are only going up, driving people into homelessness, or out of the city entirely. Rae will build social housing on public lands and speed up housing production citywide, cutting red tape while keeping in place tenant and homeowner protections to ensure that people are able to keep their homes. Rae will streamline the city’s housing strategy, creating a Mayor’s Office of Housing For All to consolidate these different departments under one roof, with a public dashboard to track progress and hold us accountable. We need to counterbalance the power we've surrendered to Brussels by empowering local communities—but with our eyes wide open. This requires STRUCTURAL REFORM before we can return power to the organizations that once successfully provided not-for-profit housing to those in need. 🏠 Housing déjà vu! Nothing new in the Fianna Fáil-Fine Gael repackaged housing plan. Nothing to make housing affordable, get rents under control or ramp-up delivery of council homes needed. A generation will remain locked-out of homeownership. Another housing plan for the property funds, corporate landlords and big developers but not for you. We won’t stop fighting for a new direction that makes housing affordable for workers and families.

O’Devaney Gardens was once a place where generations grew up in secure council homes. This redevelopment should have done the same for the next generation. Instead, public land was handed over in a sweetheart deal and families are now priced out of homes meant to be affordable. We need to use public land for public housing. We need to end rip off.
