Worsening or NEGATIVE calcium balance on a high animal protein diet can only be explained by BONE BREAKDOWN (as the losses in calcium are too great to come from anywhere else but BONE, i.e., it's physiologically IMPOSSIBLE for the calcium losses to come from anywhere else because the human body can't lose more than 2,000 mg of calcium before someone would DIE). In the Bellevue Study - Anderson lost 34 GRAMS of calcium within 4 months of metabolic balances and Stefansson lost ~ 15 grams of calcium....ONLY 2 grams of that could have come from non-bone areas...the rest HAD to have come from bone! At least 7 metabolic ward studies PROVE THIS! AND AND AND AND AND So, 1.) Mechanistically animal protein leads to a TRUE acid load...that is UNASSAILABLE (Stewart Model SID dropping) 2.) At least 7 Metabolic ward studies prove that the calcium loss from high animal protein diets MUST COME FROM BONE 3.) Bone turnover markers support increased bone breakdown and decreased bone formation AND AND AND AND 4.) All that's left is PERSONAL confirmation --> Go get a High Resolution Peripheral Quantitative CT of your bone (or have your carnivore friends do it). This measures corticalthickness and cortical porosity (what low grade acidosis would affect on bone). DEXA will MISS bone loss from low grade acidosis, just like DEXA misses the bone loss from glucocorticoids (DEXA primarily measures centralized trabecular bone).

I’m tired. Everything seems harmful

K2 status is crucial here, as it directs mobilized calcium away from soft tissues and toward bone.

I see this often in practice – unbalanced protein wrecks bones and vessels. Love this insight! Nutrition matters for mobility.

@grok summarize/simplify

Thank you very much for this explanation. I will put this to use. I am grateful.

So bicarbonate and lemon juice (citrate) some hours after digestion

I take 2 Bi-carb capsules from here with every 7 oz of animal foods

@rafaeltellez Cool, but what about regular baking soda which everyone already has?

@rafaeltellez That can work but I prefer to take a third party tested one in a capsule so I can appropriately dose it and not have to taste it and the one I take is a balance of sodium and potassium bicarbonate which is better for blood pressure.

Exercise is alkalizing and deep breathing is alkalizing.

Intense exercise is acidifying.

Yes. If you are working out so intensely you are gasping for air. That’s not me, nor is it most people.

So eat meat with veggies and put a little Redmond relyte in the drinking water and we’re good to go?

It takes ~ 2-3X the weight of low oxalate fruits and vegetables to fully offset the acid load from animal foods.

RIGHT ON!

Salt is Alkaline.

So supplement with calcium

That does NOT prevent the low grade acidosis or the bone breakdown. That would only cover the negative calcium balance, which is only one of many harms from low grade acidosis.

So can I not have 1.5lbs of meat everyday anymore? Is that going to cause healthy issues?

Ok, who eats that way?

I agree that excessive protein intake is bad. I'm not convinced that we need calcium for strong bones.

What if I drink raw milk as well?

Helps with calcium balance but doesn’t offset the acid load. I take 2 Bi-carb capsules with every 7 oz of animal foods from here

Since people don't understand the effects , what are the things they can check out for James?

1.) N-telopeptide and C-telopeptide in blood and/or urine (bone breakdown markers) 2.) Urinary pH, citrate, ammonium and calcium 3.) High Resolution CT scan of the bone (cortical bone thinning and/or decrease in cortical bone porosity) 4.) Serum CO2/bicarbonate (usually won’t be clinically low but lower end of normal) 5.) BUN, cystatin C, albumin 6.) PaCO2 (ventilatory compensation during acidosis)
