Vertigo of Latent Space Montage marked the decisive invention of cinema: a mode of associating images capable of producing new relations. Yet this potential has remained largely unexplored, as cinema has most often reproduced narrative forms inherited from the novel. With artificial imagination, another regime of images emerges. Images are no longer simply arranged; they transform into one another within a continuous space. It then becomes possible to work not with sequences, but with transitions, passages, thresholds. Vertigo is approached here as a latent structure, a field of forms in circulation. The film becomes a set of persistent forms that reactivate, deform, and recombine in contact with other images. What is at stake here is less a reinterpretation of the film than an attempt to approach thought in action: its movement, its bifurcations, its reminiscences. In The Flow, this research unfolds on another scale. It seeks to follow the flow of consciousness, not as narrative, but as a continuous dynamic in which films, memories, and history intermingle and circulate. This work around Vertigo constitutes a variation: a way of exploring how a film can dissolve into this flow and become one of the sites from which thought begins to move.

Google announces PALP Prompt Aligned Personalization of Text-to-Image Models paper page: Content creators often aim to create personalized images using personal subjects that go beyond the capabilities of conventional text-to-image models. Additionally, they may want the resulting image to encompass a specific location, style, ambiance, and more. Existing personalization methods may compromise personalization ability or the alignment to complex textual prompts. This trade-off can impede the fulfillment of user prompts and subject fidelity. We propose a new approach focusing on personalization methods for a single prompt to address this issue. We term our approach prompt-aligned personalization. While this may seem restrictive, our method excels in improving text alignment, enabling the creation of images with complex and intricate prompts, which may pose a challenge for current techniques. In particular, our method keeps the personalized model aligned with a target prompt using an additional score distillation sampling term. We demonstrate the versatility of our method in multi- and single-shot settings and further show that it can compose multiple subjects or use inspiration from reference images, such as artworks. We compare our approach quantitatively and qualitatively with existing baselines and state-of-the-art techniques.

DHAL (Discrete-time Hybrid Automata Learning) takes a different approach: using reinforcement learning to teach robots when and how to switch movements in real-time: ✅ Learns when to switch between different motions without pre-labeled data ✅ Handles complex, high-dimensional movements like a quadrupedal robot on a skateboard ✅ Uses a multi-critic architecture to improve contact-based motion control ✅ Works in both simulation and real-world environments with strong results It proves that robots can learn movement transitions on their own, without predefined rules. Fast View Synthesis of Casual Videos paper page: Novel view synthesis from an in-the-wild video is difficult due to challenges like scene dynamics and lack of parallax. While existing methods have shown promising results with implicit neural radiance fields, they are slow to train and render. This paper revisits explicit video representations to synthesize high-quality novel views from a monocular video efficiently. We treat static and dynamic video content separately. Specifically, we build a global static scene model using an extended plane-based scene representation to synthesize temporally coherent novel video. Our plane-based scene representation is augmented with spherical harmonics and displacement maps to capture view-dependent effects and model non-planar complex surface geometry. We opt to represent the dynamic content as per-frame point clouds for efficiency. While such representations are inconsistency-prone, minor temporal inconsistencies are perceptually masked due to motion. We develop a method to quickly estimate such a hybrid video representation and render novel views in real time. Our experiments show that our method can render high-quality novel views from an in-the-wild video with comparable quality to state-of-the-art methods while being 100x faster in training and enabling real-time rendering.

We built a five-meter demera using traditional techniques. Wood, incense, fire and wind. The rest was outside our control. The moment would unfold however it happened, with our muse Lydia embodying the spirit of Empress Eleni (Saint Helena). Hidden stones marked Lydia’s path... Each movement was practiced in daylight, but during filming there would be no second take. Behind the camera, a big team stood ready with a water truck, buckets, and branches ready to protect the ground. Filming took place during a wet interlude, when the ground was already a little bit damp.

Magic123: One Image to High-Quality 3D Object Generation Using Both 2D and 3D Diffusion Priors paper page: present Magic123, a two-stage coarse-to-fine approach for high-quality, textured 3D meshes generation from a single unposed image in the wild using both2D and 3D priors. In the first stage, we optimize a neural radiance field to produce a coarse geometry. In the second stage, we adopt a memory-efficient differentiable mesh representation to yield a high-resolution mesh with a visually appealing texture. In both stages, the 3D content is learned through reference view supervision and novel views guided by a combination of 2D and 3D diffusion priors. We introduce a single trade-off parameter between the 2D and 3D priors to control exploration (more imaginative) and exploitation (more precise) of the generated geometry. Additionally, we employ textual inversion and monocular depth regularization to encourage consistent appearances across views and to prevent degenerate solutions, respectively. Magic123 demonstrates a significant improvement over previous image-to-3D techniques, as validated through extensive experiments on synthetic benchmarks and diverse real-world images.

Imagine if language models could tap into the app ecosystem of your iPhone. Would the need for plugins and assistants become obsolete if we simply allowed a model to orchestrate our existing (and many years robust) user interfaces? This demonstrates the extent to which GPT-4V excels as a Generalist Mobile AI Agent – without any fine-tuning or grounding, and merely by integrating with a text model that has JSON mode enabled. I suggest watching this demo for a (maybe) wow factor and the results on iOS 17 using NavAIGuide, a mobile and web navigational agent framework for LLMs:

Introducing the WoW Camera Tools addon 🎥 A small project I’ve been tinkering with that gives you a simple UI for cleaner screenshots, smoother camera control and a bit of fun cinematic flair. Features include: • Rotate, tilt and zoom buttons • Adjustable speed sliders for each movement • Quick presets (Slow, Medium, Fast) • Hide player for clean environment shots • Basic cinematic orbit mode • Minimap button with saved position • Slash commands for easy access This is my first ever attempt at making an addon, so please be patient while I improve and polish it. Very open to feedback, ideas and feature requests 💙

The fundamental shift is for coaches to stop being "instructors" who teach techniques (such as the in and out or cross jab between the legs), and instead become "architects of an environment" where solutions can emerge. This is done by creating a game-like environment with constraints, such as a one-on-one situation where the defender must start and stay on the three-point line until the offense gets there, forcing the offense to solve a problem with defense present. The core idea is that when using the constraints-led approach, coaches are architects of a good learning environment, not teachers of techniques.
