NASA took a major step toward redefining high-speed flight on Nov. 16, 2004. The X-43A, a small, experimental aircraft, proved that an engine drawing oxygen from the atmosphere could propel an aircraft to hypersonic speeds – greater than Mach 5, or five times the speed of sound. During the flight over the Pacific Ocean west of California, the X-43A set the world speed record for a jet-powered aircraft, reaching Mach 9.6, or nearly 7,000 mph. The mission originated from NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center in Edwards, California. We’ve entered the next phase of our flight test program, showcasing piloted Midnight flight, as well as CTOL capabilities. The piloted flight featured a conventional take-off and landing (CTOL) demonstrating the robustness of Midnight’s landing gear which is capable of performing both vertical and conventional take-off and landing operations. Through our design and certification process, our team, government regulators and our customers, both civil and defense, have identified the importance of being able to conduct both vertical and conventional take-off and landing as part of normal operation of the aircraft as having CTOL capabilities in addition to VTOL provides operational flexibility and enhanced safety. Watch the full flight as Midnight cruises at speeds of up to 125 mph and reaches a maximum altitude of over 1,500 feet above ground level with Archer Chief Test Pilot, Jeff Greenwood, at the controls.

The third fully domestic prototype of the Sukhoi Superjet 100 regional airliner, developed by the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), has successfully completed its maiden flight at the Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aircraft Plant. The test flight lasted approximately 40 minutes, reaching altitudes of up to 3,000 meters and speeds of up to 500 km/h. The aircraft demonstrated excellent controllability and stability throughout the flight. This prototype is equipped with Russian-made PD-8 engines developed by the United Engine Corporation (UEC), replacing the previous Franco-Russian SaM146 units. In addition to the new engines, the aircraft features domestically produced avionics, landing gear, auxiliary power unit, control systems, electrical systems, air conditioning, fire protection systems, and more. It also boasts a newly designed fuselage with structural modifications aimed at streamlining both production and maintenance.

Thursday, March 14th, 2024 #S28 and #B10 took to the skies for #Starship Flight 3. Building on the success of Flight 2, B10 completed its boostback burn making it the first #SuperHeavy booster to make a touchdown in the Gulf of Mexico. S28 completed its insertion burn making it the first Starship to reach the reentry portion of flight providing massive amounts of data for #SpaceX engineers. Both B10 and S28 provided amazing views and reached new milestones making Flight 3 the most successful orbital test of Starship to date. Congratulations SpaceX! We look forward to Flight 4, which could be right around the corner!

It was 1/3 scale of the Vulcan and used to test flight characteristics of tailless aircraft. The C version had side by side seating, for this trial the left stick was direct link to control surfaces and right stick was fly by wire.😎
