Hmmm, OpenAI just acquired a company called "Global Illumination" that makes open-source Minecraft clone. What's next, multi-agent civilization sim running on GPT-5? Maybe Minecraft is indeed all you need for AGI? I'm intrigued.🤔 Announcement: Company: Game called "Biomes":

The Biomes game actually looks quite good. Maybe it's time to upgrade our MineDojo stack!

@OpenAI OpenAI owns. this Minecraft clone. Microsoft owns Minecraft and a large chunk of OpenAi. Microsoft cornering the market.

@OpenAI What a bizarre and interesting acquisition

@OpenAI It would make sense to practice in a virtual world before applying these systems in the real world to see what happens. Training can probably be faster too. I expect some absurd Minecraft speed run videos in a couple of months. 🔥

@OpenAI i think its more of a hackquire - lot of bright minds working on interesting problems, with notable experience (which is what OAI needs/wants more of)

@OpenAI I'm also very curious. It does not really seem to be in line with OpenAI's current direction. They had an open-endedness team before, but got rid of it.

@OpenAI It's a good thing to know that we're training and testing future AGI in worlds where they are rewarded to maximise their resources. Once we deploy them in the real world, they will always be docile slaves that will never attempt to seek power.

@OpenAI Here’s more info, if interested:

@OpenAI ChatGPT will never get better and more question-answer data that what Google already has. If Openai can build a successful game with agents and people who interact with each other towards their own open-ended goals, now that would be a real dataset to build AGI.

@OpenAI considering OAI's relationship with microsoft, I would've imagined they'd have all the low-level minecraft access they'd need for their RL work. maybe they'll be making some custom gyms environments?
