Our education system is failing miserably Black American is asked to read this simple sentence The only words she can read is the word ‘funding’ and a couple more but can’t read or even pronounce most of the other words Here are the English proficiency score percentages according to national data Elementary School - White students: ~35–40% proficient - Black students: ~15–20% proficient Middle School - White students: ~30–35% proficient - Black students: ~12–18% proficient High School - White students: ~35–40% proficient - Black students: ~15–20% proficient Now obviously there is a gap here where white students are twice as likely to be proficient at reading compared to black students but that’s not the point The point is nobody passes on average. Even at 40% that’s less than half our kids finishing high school proficient at English This is horrible

UNBELIEVABLE - OUR YOUNG CANNOT READ CURSIVE - Really - This is almost unbelievable. BUT - Then they may not be able to read type written words either - We keep reading articles that say students can't read - How do they expect to succeed in life? What has the Teacher's unions and "woke" teachers done to our children - They have concentrated on things that only cause our children to have a need to protest and other things that make no difference in this world. It's true - too many times students can't read or write when they graduate high school - First of all - I want to know how they graduated and have learned nothing about anything that will help them succeed in life.

Minnesota used to be one of the best educated states in the country. Now only half our kids can read or do math at grade level. People are skeptical that teachers don't know their students can't read. Yes, teachers know students can't decode words. But teachers have been taught that words aren't necessary for "reading". Here's a teacher teaching kids to "read" by looking at pictures. In fact the word they're "reading" is covered up so the students can't even see it! And listen to how she describes it at the end of the video: "reading and analyzing text"

Glad to see the Kentucky General Assembly override Gov. Beshear’s veto. I wrote this legislation. Governor Beshear either doesn't understand it or is lying. Either way he's choosing unions over students. First, private scholarships, not state dollars, will flow to students. It will cost Kentucky nothing while giving every child in Kentucky the education that best fits their needs. Second, public school kids will benefit too. The law allows funds to flow to special-needs students attending public school who may need additional money for after-school tutoring services.
