UNBELIEVABLE - OUR YOUNG CANNOT READ CURSIVE - Really - This is almost unbelievable. BUT - Then they may not be able to read type written words either - We keep reading articles that say students can't read - How do they expect to succeed in life? What has the Teacher's unions and "woke" teachers done to our children - They have concentrated on things that only cause our children to have a need to protest and other things that make no difference in this world. It's true - too many times students can't read or write when they graduate high school - First of all - I want to know how they graduated and have learned nothing about anything that will help them succeed in life.

Every few years a new silly speed-reading hack becomes popular, here's the latest one: It's called Quantum Speed-Reading (QSR). How does it work? The faster you flip through a book, the faster you 'read' it. Using QSR, kids can 'read' 100,000 words in 5 minutes. Yumiko Tobitani, the creator of QSR, presented no scientific evidence for her method. Instead, she says that "when a book is flipped through at high speed the words are transformed into images and come out as pictures," and that flipping through a book helps you pick up "the thought vibrations emanating from it." QSR training centers are popping up across China and Japan and charging students $860 to teach them this new reading method.

Regarding these anti-Trump protests at public schools: The kids can't read, they can't make change at the grocery store and they don't know their pronouns. And now we know why - their schools are Antifa training camps. "This is why school choice matters and this is why giving parents the ability to send their students to the school that they desire is so important. We have to make sure that students aren't forced to be in these indoctrination centers but that parents have a choice when it comes to their education. States like Kansas are continuing to move to school choice but we have to win governorships and super majorities and legislators to make sure that this happens." "A lot of students have different cultures at home." I pity Irish teachers, they're forced to deal with endless different cultures and classrooms full of non-Irish kids who can't even speak English. Then they are called racist by the parents of those kids. 20% of Irish schools have dropped subjects because teaching has become an undesirable career choice, the schools cannot recruit new teachers.

Even at 40% that’s less than half our kids finishing high school proficient at English This is horrible

We need to abolish the Department of Education. English literature majors — the people who will become teachers — are going to college without having ever read a book because they "don't know how" and were never expected to because of "critical literacy", which is essentially critical theory applied to reading which teaches kids to basically invent their own meaning based on their feelings when reading a text instead of understanding what the author actually meant. If that sounds so obviously stupid that you can't believe it's true, congratulations, you now understand why giving the corrupt federal government the power to decide education curricula for every child in America was a mistake.

My Orton-Gillingham training changed the way I approach reading instruction. I adapted many OG strategies for my #MLL students including Code packs. Code packs are an essential strategy for students who cannot guess or predict words they don’t know. The only way to read a word is by sounding it out. But to sound it out, they MUST know the individual letter/sound associations. This is the focus of Emily Hanford’s Sold A Story podcast. Note: This is ONE of many important instructional strategies within a #StructuredLiteracy approach that helps with word reading skills for struggling #FSL readers.
