How do you explain recursion? This one is pretty fun. I had Claude Opus 5.5 make: "A video explaining recursion, where every explanation about recursion has a radically different video style, make this self-referential & clever & fast moving." Nine genre shifts, one prompt...

Every scene is drawn in React and SVG and the music & sound effects are synthesized in Python. The only files that aren't code are a few hundred small textures like film grain and bokeh, which were code generated in advance so the render would run faster, plus open-source fonts

Lets see what we get from this one...

Do you have it produce a script that you review or genuine one-shot?

Genuine one-shot

Brooo. This is mind blowing. That loop too was kinda like the icing on the cake. I consider this a perfect explanation for recursion for normies. Opus 5.5 is on another level when it comes to making videos.

Has Opus 5.5 level models begun to solve the slop problem (that was human to begin with) since the interpretation and implementation of the prompt you used seems to be genuinely interesting and thoughtful?

But recursion is… you know what, never mind

Is this generated using plain web chatbot UI, or, rather, running Claude Code or Cowork, accessing tools/apps on your computer? For example, how does it generate the speech?

Capability jumps are real - the bottleneck moves to judgment: what counts as evidence, and what would disprove it.

Two mirrors facing each other give infinite reflections, and recursion is the same idea for code. A function keeps calling itself until it hits the base case, basically the off switch. Without that stopping point, the call stack fills up until everything crashes.

Nine styles to explain recursion is the most honest Opus 5.5 demo yet. The hard part of teaching was never the first explanation. It's the second one, after the first didn't land.

weirdly very similar ‘shifts’ to those i got when i asked it to be jarringly different in the animation i was creating . good ole. claude ish will find a way.

Nine genre shifts is cute, but the real recursion test is whether the ninth version can reference the first without resetting the joke. Did it?

A recursion lesson asking its own explanation to be self-referential is already halfway there.

i remember seeing in a theo vid that if ya use the word recursion, you have cyberpsychosis. now it's fashionable... weird world.

nine genre shifts from one prompt is insane lmao. Opus 5.5 keeps looking better every time I see a demo like this. wish I could try it myself, but my local bank card still won’t work for the Claude subscription

Keep a small call-stack diagram in the same corner as the genres change. Highlight each new call and its return. That would give viewers a stable reference for where they are in the recursion, even when the visual style changes.

Nine genre shifts turn recursion from a definition into the video's structure.
