🚨How much vitamin D should we be taking?” Marc Siegel MD: “Vitamin D is a super immune vitamin. About 40% of people are deficient.” “I recommend 2,000–5,000 units a day, monitored by your doctor. It reduces severe flu risk and helps the immune system fight infections.”

@DrMarcSiegel That’s awful. Get your blood tested for vitamin D levels that calibrate with your doctor. Many people need >10K-30K IU or more per day to align to their doctor’s expectations

@DrMarcSiegel Too low. The original study was off by an order of magnitude. Most people would do very well with 10,000 IU daily.

@DrMarcSiegel People take processed supplements rather than just eating real foods and spending time outdoors and I’ll never fully understand this

I take 10,000 IU of vitamin D each day. "Monitored by a doctor?" Hahahaha! the quacks I have seen all want me on nothing but big-profit prescription drugs! When I tell them I reject vaccines, statins, etc and rely on vitamins, they act like I am from another planet. I trust none of them and do not go near hospitals. I am half-way through my eighth decade and never get sick.

@DrMarcSiegel Make sure you’re taking it 4 hours away from calcium, and WITH K2. And a fatty snack.

@DrMarcSiegel 💯 my doc started me on Vit D 5000 iu for Covid. He rounded on a couple LTC facilities during Covid, he put all the old folks on 10000 iu’s and had zero fatalities from Covid.

@DrMarcSiegel Vitamin D matters—especially for immune health. Always smart to test levels and supplement under a doctor’s guidance. Strong immunity starts with awareness 💪☀️

@DrMarcSiegel I am glad that physicians are finally being honest that we don't have a flu & cold season, we have a low sunshine & Vit D season. Vit D3 should be taken with Vit K2 + Mg Glycinate for maximum bioavailability, absorption & effectiveness.

@DrMarcSiegel That’s a terrible recommendation. Everybody needs 10,000 units and people who have trouble absorbing it need 20 to 30 for a period of a year or so.

I do a 25-hydroxyvitamin D test to measure my levels, I want them from 70-100 (ng/mL) my latest levels were 76, I'm getting at least 10,000 units of D daily in the summer and up to 20 to 25,000 daily in the winter with vitamin K2. Been doing it for the last 15 years and have hardly ever been sick and feeling like a million bucks.

Vitamin D is just another over-hyped supplement scam pushed by doctors for kickbacks. 5,000 IU daily? That's how you end up with kidney stones and hypercalcemia while Big Pharma laughs. Most people don't need any extra sun and food are enough. Stop fear-mongering deficiency nonsense.

@DrMarcSiegel Why wasn’t Mr Siegel recommending Vitamin D, Zinc and an ionophore elderberry during the plandemic?

@DrMarcSiegel 10K during high 'covid' outbreaks. I take 6K regularly, in 2K increments. I never considered this as important for the flu. This makes me wonder, why we were not told about Vitamin D3 prior for flu immune support before Sars Covid 2 was unleashed upon the world?

@DrMarcSiegel Might want to tell ignoramus Nicole Saphier who in early 2020 told a panel of mothers Vit. D and Zinc are not really effective to build one’s immunity, and I remind her every opportunity I can of her incompetence. She pushes mammograms and pushed the deadly COVID shots so…….🙄

@DrMarcSiegel 5000IU is well above the established upper safe limit for cholecalciferol. Anyone who suggests such an amount is not to be trusted. Clueless at best, malicious at worst.

Vitamin D supplementation was associated with a 40% lower risk of dementia over a decade. After five years, 84% of supplement users were dementia-free compared to just 68% of non-users in a study of over 12,000 people. Vitamin D reduced dementia risk by 33% in adults with mild cognitive impairment or APOE e4, a key genetic risk factor for neurodegenerative diseases. Vitamin D isn’t just a vitamin—it's a steroid hormone regulating over 2,000 genes critical for brain development, neuroplasticity, and inflammation control. Its roles include clearing amyloid beta plaques and tau buildup, boosting neuron survival via neurotrophic factors like BDNF, and enhancing brain connectivity, particularly when paired with exercise. It’s no surprise, then, that higher vitamin D levels are associated with better cognition, larger hippocampal volume, and lower Alzheimer’s risk. Multiple lines of evidence support this. More than 30 large studies have consistently linked low vitamin D levels to a 50–150% increased dementia risk. People genetically prone to low vitamin D—those with genetic variations affecting vitamin D production or metabolism—have a 54% higher dementia risk. Furthermore, supplementing with 800 IU/day of vitamin D improves memory and cognitive function in people with mild cognitive impairment and more serious forms of dementia. To learn more about optimizing vitamin D levels for cognitive health, including underlying brain-protective mechanisms and practical supplementation protocols, see the latest FoundMyFitness video.
