Not a fan of that type of valley, it catches leaves and debris which sit and decay if not promptly tended to. This tends to degrade the shingles. A proper metal valley will serve you better over the long run. Code may allow but on my property or project it is getting metal .

Why is he not staggering the joints after he goes over a full shingle?

I prefer 2" out of the valley with that shingle, but this method is fine as long as you keep your nails 6" out of the middle of the valley

we only use shingles on garden huts,,,,our roofs have slate tiles..80 year life span,,cant believe people use roofing felt,,which is really crap

If you put one nail in the middle of the shingles only. They will never blow off. Just have to go up and rearrange them few times a year.😉

Nails are too low in the valley I keep nails 12 inches up from the valley I would never do a valley that way

Cali valley. Doesn't leak. Cut valleys are risky. Metal fails in snow country. Its all roofing. As long as water drains downhill and ice cant climb uphill.

As a Oregon roofer that deals with more rain than 99% of the country this production or California type of valley is completely fine. A hell of a lot better than a woven valley
