Most people don’t understand Phil Foden. Phil Foden is a tempo dependent profile. He needs constant touches, quick 1-2s and early access to activate his game. So he keeps dropping into the first phase showing between lines asking for the ball off the 6/8s and even the CBs. The issue is not availability. It’s access. England simply do not have the level of passer required. Anderson, Rice, Mainoo and Henderson are nowhere near the level of consistently breaking lines with the right weight, timing and conviction. I’d break the Zlatan issue for many people including yourself. Narratives have traveled and I’ve come to conclude that many of you don’t even know what happened with Zlatan at Barcelona. Zlatan’s major issue was with Pep, he had no single issue with Messi, none. Till date, he maintains that beef with Pep. On Piers Morgan, Zlatan said the mistake he did when he got to Barcelona was trying to fit in. He got off a wrong start with Pep because he drove a Ferrari to training. In his words, he said Pep told him that, in this place, players don’t drive a Ferrari. Zlatan said he didn’t drive his car for 7-8 months just to please Pep and try to fit in, which was his biggest regret. Zlatan said he wasn’t performing and went to see Pep in his office. Firstly he went to meet the higher people up there in the hierarchy, but they told him that they can’t interfere and he should speak to Pep himself. He went to meet Pep and told him that the new formation does not favor him. By the way, this is absolutely normal. I have attacked a video to Salah talking with Slot. It only looked like this when the ball is central. Nowrich rotate (change positions during play) a lot and this narrow block denies central rotation. In this clip, they have had rotation in left back position as the CM has dropped into the area and left back on the last line. 2: 20 secs - When the ball went wide or started to move wide, the full back would advance up the pitch to pressure the full back and press full back to full back, whilst the CBs would come out with the Norwich forwards coming in between the lines, as this ball transitions across the pitch you see Sargent come out and Iorfa following tight. All coaches, take note. Rayan Cherki was filmed by Keepitonthedeck at the St Kevins Academy Cup ten years ago. Back then not once in that entire tournament was he met with shouts of pass the ball. Not once was he taken off for attempting tricks or flicks. No one barked at him to run aimlessly. What we saw was a young player given true freedom. At twelve years of age, playing against thirteen year olds, his ability was not just impressive, it was joyful to watch. It made people smile and at times even laugh at how effortlessly he played. Comfortable on both feet at that age as well. What stood out most was not just his skill, but the environment around him. He was allowed to express himself and grow, without being restricted by a coach or confined by a system. We even witnessed him lead and take entire team warm ups, given ownership of a team with players older than him. Coaches are there to help talent, not destroy them. Both types of coaches exist, so careful which ones you play under! As Cherki said himself, “If we don't play with pleasure, you can't play better, you can't show what you want.”

Our first goal last night requires a longer look. It starts in transition with Bannan winning it back on the half way line on the left, and then Johnson recycles to Famewo and then to Beadle. Go through the annotations: 1: Beadle allows Hogan to get right on top of him. This is crucial as it means he is behind Bernard who will be the recipient of the ball 2: because Birmingham are defending deep with a high line (always find this strange), it leaves a lot of space in the middle. 3: Poveda drops back to 4 spaces and just recognises the space behind the defensive drop and holds to recycle. 4: Cadz then pulls off into the 10 space, the red zone - as Rohl calls it. Where I know they work on the reverse wide. Because of the camera change, you can just see Poveda's head on the screen, but he has run from 4 spaces to the right wing. 5: Cadz recognising space against the drop and taking the defender with him. 6: Ugbo holding the ground against the drop to remain in space.
