A few things missed: 1. Warm engine first. 2. Open oil filler cap so the oil drains easier. 3. Replace the washer on the sump plug if necessary. 4. Run some old oil around the seal on the new filter to help it seal correctly. 5. Fill oil to correct level.

I always leave my drain plug loose to make this process easier the next time I do it

Except you remove the oil filler cap before you drain the oil. Put a new washer on the drain screw. Put clean oil in the new filter and over the seal before fitting it and run the engine to allow the new oil to distribute before topping it off again.

If I had a garage I could work in and a lift to be able to get under my car, and disposal method for the oil, then, sure, I'd love to change my own oil.

Add on an extra hour to jack up the car, put axle stands in place and remove the undertray. Not everyone has access to a lift! 😉

Did not check the dipstick after to see if he had put the correct amount of oil in.
