Width and body turn are really important in the backswing. Many ams think they have a full turn only because the club gets to parallel but in reality, they barely get any turn. It’s a lot of “fake” turn. First swing is a demonstration of how it can look like the club gets to parallel but with small body turn. When I “unfold” my arms, the club is only at hip length. The second is the opposite. Some think I’m trying to keep a short backswing when in actuality my body is turning really full with width and no wrist cock. I can get to “parallel” really easily with some wrist cock.

Mesmerizing. 😍 Linn Grant is known for having one of the best golf swings on earth. First watch, you will focus on her club position in the backswing. But I’m kind of blown away by her left arm at top of swing. Its barely passed 90 degrees. Even with driver. Maybe I need to shorten my swing! I know so little about the golf swing lol.

I see the golf swing as a three-piece movement: the backswing, the transition, and the downswing. The transition is where most golfers lose the swing. They rush from the top, jerk the club down with their arms, and throw away all the power they created on the backswing. That’s why I love the Pause Drill. By pausing at the top, you’re forced to start the downswing from the ground up, just as the great ball strikers did. It teaches the proper kinematic sequence while helping you develop a smooth, unhurried transition. I constantly remind my students that a great golf swing isn’t about moving faster—it’s about moving in the right order. Master the transition, and the downswing will take care of itself.

Angles are so important. ✨ When too high: we aren’t getting the ankle mobility that the drive phase really needs to strike in the position the drill is made for When too low: you have so much pressure on your upper body that you aren’t able to load the lower limbs in the way you should to maximize the drill. Find that sweet spot, and have fun, this drill is great! 👍

Daniel Berger’s move is super unique. Really strong left hand grip, and a backswing that he’s been retooling recently. Mainly by making it shorter, to get him out of “excessive” back extension, which was causing him pain. A drill he does that helps: “As I’m taking the club away, I lift my left foot off the ground, then I press it back into the ground...that basically helps me get rid of the last few frames of my backswing. You can call it an overswing, and that gets rid of the excessive back extension that’s really the area that we saw was most prone to injury.”

Lots of Ryan Fox swing videos going around. This one shot by LKD is my favorite. The alignment rod does a great job of highlighting just how “across the line” his arms get during the backswing. Amazing how he’s somehow able to drop the club behind him from there.
