How to Remember What You Read

Best trick I learned in the Navy: if you have to teach it to someone at 0600, you'll remember it forever. Reading's the intake, explaining it is the save button.

As a user of Kindle, to learn that there's a "Your Notes and Highlights" section in Amazon for all of the highlights that I've done was an amazing tip. Thanks for that!!

As a librarian, Mr. Ferris, I fully approve of this message.

Very useful 🙌🏿

I actually believe that what you read stays with you forever, both in your memory and in your subconscious. You absorb the ideas that resonate with you most, and over time, they become an innate part of who you are and what you know—without needing a system to memorize them.

I’ve just found your name on the book I’m reading now! That makes me smile :)

One habit that works: close the book and write three lines from memory before moving on. Recalling beats rereading. Roediger and Karpicke showed this testing effect back in 2006.

@bot digest and summarize but show detail on notetaking

I only remember the books I argued with in the margins

The trap is stopping at recognition. If you can't explain the core idea in one plain sentence without looking, you didn't actually learn it. Context is the real glue.

Enjoyed that thanks
