The Airbus Primary Flight Display (PFD) features a "rising ground" depiction (also known as terrain or brown/green topographical mapping) on the attitude director indicator (ADI). This provides pilots with improved situational awareness by visually representing rising terrain relative to the aircraft’s current altitude. This is a great example of how pilots deal with a low visibility landing during a Category 3 “autoland” approach in fog. It is required because of the reported visibility. EVERYTHING is briefed including all contingencies well before we start the descent. The automation is doing the work while the pilots back it up. Low Visibility taxi also has to be pre briefed because you might only have 75m visibility on the ground. Safe on deck in Delhi. 📸 by ig/grboettger

WHY THE BOEING 787-10 IS THE LEAST POPULAR DREAMLINER VARIANT Despite being the largest member of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner family, the 787-10 accounts for just under 11% of total orders, far behind the 787-8 and 787-9. According to Boeing data, the 787-10 carries the most passengers (336) but has the shortest range at 6,330 nautical miles, compared with 7,305 nmi for the 787-8 and 7,565 nmi for the 787-9. To reduce development costs, Boeing retained the same 60-meter wing and landing gear as the smaller variants. However, the much longer fuselage (68 m vs. 63 m on the -9 and 57 m on the -8) results in less fuel capacity relative to its size, limiting long-haul range. This positions the 787-10 in a narrow market segment and in direct competition with aircraft like the Airbus A350-900, while the more versatile 787-9 continues to dominate Dreamliner orders. Boeing is now exploring MTOW increases and structural improvements that could add roughly 500 nautical miles of range, potentially improving the aircraft’s competitiveness.

It is horrific. We were just trying to analyse the preliminary report of the Boeing 787 Air India crash on 12th June. Lately till yesterday, we got to know that another Boeing 787 in the pilot defect report, which is part of the technical log book of the aircraft, the pilot in command has given a noting which is in black and white, which clearly states that the fuel control switch, which is one of the most essential switches in the Boeing 787, has faltered, has misbehaved and it is quite appalling as an aviator that the same switch was part of an inquiry report which led to the Air India crash. We must understand that this fuel control switch is guarded by the manufacturer, has misbehaved. In this particular instance, the operator, the regulator and the manufacturer, all three of them have to introspect. The country cannot take this lightly..."
