The problem isn't that Luke found budhist peace and enlightenment. The problem is that he left the galaxy at the mercy of the first order for 3 decades and tried to murder his nephew because of a hunch, despite saving his dad from worse corruption, all to find that peace.

When I walked out of the Last Jedi I knew that Star Wars was finished. They destroyed the legacy of Luke Skywalker just in spite of those that grew up loving Star Wars.

I personally was fine with Hermit Luke, but the reasonings for him to become Hermit Luke were not sufficient. Either something more catastrophic should have happened, or Luke should have truly believed and possibly been right that the Jedi should end. But the story setup in TFA made that latter story impossible.

If Star Wars released chronologically, from 1-6, would you guys be throwing this kind of a tantrum about Yoda? He kinda gave up after making a mistake and not trying to write it as Luke says a Jedi always would. Definitely took more than a year to regroup.

Blame JJ Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan then. They came up with the "let's have Luke missing" WITHOUT ANY REASON OR EXPLANATION for it in Force Awakens. Rian Johnson picked the LEAST damning reason for it, which was making Luke disillusioned with the force.

ngl sounds to me like Mark is stuck in the past because a good man becoming a jaded fucker that makes mistakes and ultimately wants to fix them is very common.

I love the fact that this was during promotion of the movie when it was being released, not years later. Mark didn't at any point say he liked what they did with Luke. The compilations of him fundamentally disagreeing with the direction of the movie are fantastic. He's a gem.

I've heard this before and I do not care. I will not defend the sequels. But, if Mark truly had THAT big of a problem with them, he shouldn't have participated.

NO. No excuses, no rationalizations. Luke realizes that they have fundamentally subverted, deprecated, destroyed the character he plays, but he accepts it. The original 3 Star Wars movies were MUCH MORE THAN MERE MOVIES. They were a cultural phenomenon, an explosion of unanimity among masses of people siding with the rebellion. The connection with a desire to rebel against current globalist trends is obvious and THAT, in my opinion, is what Kathleen Kennedy and Rian Johnson set out to destroy utterly. But ... there's those 3 pesky original movies and the 3 major original characters who just won't go away. How unfortunate for the "Wokies", always running after a legend they cannot surpass which shrinks the "Wokies" to their true status, ideological wretches.

Legitimately this sequel trilogy should’ve been disconnected from the original six movies or at least have been written with Lucas’ own story boards because the way it was handled was like giving two toddlers the same set of action figures.

Rian Johnson is a disgrace, but even though Mark Hamil disagreed with his decisions and heavily criticized them, he still took the paycheck and went home at the end of the day.

Well, Luke isn’t supposed to be the protagonist of the sequels. If he was the go-getter he used to be, how would he not overshadow the new protagonists like Rey? Why would the First Order exist in the first place, without Luke’s exile?
