During my meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia Margus Tsahkna, we discussed further support for Ukraine. The main focus was on energy and defense assistance, cooperation with partners within the Coalition of the Willing, strengthening air defense capabilities, and additional contributions to the PURL initiative. We also addressed the diplomacy aimed at peace, as well as concrete steps to pressure Russia. Finalizing the EU’s 20th sanctions package and blocking Russia’s tanker fleet are among the key measures. I met with the Minister of National Defense of Lithuania, Robertas Kaunas, who came to Ukraine for the first time since his recent appointment. We discussed Ukraine’s defense needs and prospects for joint defense production. We also addressed the current diplomatic situation and existing opportunities for a just end to the war. I thank Lithuania, Ukraine’s friend – President Gitanas Nausėda, and all Lithuanian people for their support from the very beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion. I thank the Netherlands for their support of Ukraine – since the start of the full-scale war, it has already reached nearly $9 billion. Germany is a leader in Europe in the scale of assistance provided to Ukraine — from financial aid and weapons to strengthening our air defense. This includes 6 IRIS-T systems, 3 Patriot systems, and Gepard anti-aircraft guns. All this support has saved thousands of lives. We are grateful to the Bundestag for the decision to provide an additional 3 billion euros to Ukraine. In total, German support this year will amount to 7 billion euros. We are grateful that German support for Ukraine remains unwavering and stable. We thank Germany, its Government, and all the German people for their significant assistance.

I discussed strengthening our air defense with Dick Schoof Dick Schoof. I briefed him on the massive Russian strikes and the need for additional air defense missiles. We explored new ideas that could help reinforce air defense and protect our people. It is crucial to enhance coordination among partners in the face of Russia’s growing production of ballistic missiles. I thank the Prime Minister for the Netherlands’ support of the PURL initiative and for the many important steps taken to assist our country since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

We signed a Drone Deal agreement with Denmark. This is already Ukraine’s ninth such agreement, and it is important that more and more partners are joining this format, which opens up greater opportunities for joint defense production, the exchange of expertise, and transparency in weapons exports. Together, we are building a new security architecture. I thank Denmark, and personally Mette, for this step toward strengthening our shared defense. It was with Denmark that we began joint production in Ukraine under the Danish model, and it is absolutely fair that Denmark will now have access to Ukrainian exports of weapons tested in war. Today, we also discussed with the Prime Minister Statsministeriet the strengthening of our air defense and work on European anti-ballistic defense. It is extremely important for us right now to receive Patriot missiles as quickly as possible and to jointly develop our own European capabilities to counter ballistic threats. During a meeting with Norway’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Espen Barth Eide, I thanked him for such substantial assistance and for all the support packages for the military and energy sectors. Our experience is already being used in the Middle East and the Gulf. We are improving defense against “shahed” drones, and we believe this should also be done in Europe. Thank you for supporting our state and for all of Germany’s assistance since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale aggression – more than EUR 28.6 billion over this period. This is a significant strengthening of our defense. We discussed the development of joint defense production. We can already count on six projects. Ukraine’s proposal to work with Germany in the Drone Deal format is also on the table. We expect that we will be able to make this happen. We also value our agreements on strengthening Ukraine’s air defense, which were signed in April. This is important for protecting our energy infrastructure. Europe must be self-sufficient in defending against any threats, especially ballistic ones. We discussed how we can move forward in this direction. I met with the leadership of the Spanish engineering and technology group Sener Aerospace & Defence. Today, Ukrainian manufacturers signed four cooperation documents here, three of which are specifically with Sener. The agreements concern establishing cooperation in the missile sector and air defense. This is what will strengthen the protection of Ukraine’s skies. We discussed production capabilities and bolstering Ukraine’s air defense. Strengthening air defense and protecting lives are our top priorities. We are also interested in joint projects in the field of long-range drone production. Ukraine has new developments and is ready to scale them up. We expect that all agreements between Ukrainian and Spanish manufacturers will be implemented as soon as possible. Thank you for your support and readiness to work together.

Today’s meeting with Bundeskanzler Friedrich Merz Friedrich Merz was special and substantive. We focused specifically on how to make our efforts even more active and stronger. Before the bilateral talks, we saw seven types of drones produced at our joint enterprises – six aerial and one ground-based. This is a significant result of our cooperation, and it is important that there will be more. Today, we have new agreements on cooperation – ten in total – across the most important areas. I thank Germany. Germany is a key leader in supporting Ukraine and protecting lives – it is Germany that ranks number one in Europe in terms of assistance to our defense. We all see how geopolitical sentiments can shift and how much depends on Europe’s ability to stand up for itself – for its way of life and its values. Importantly, Germany remains strong, remains committed, and is truly capable of defending the interests of Europe and Europeans.
