I do think #MUFC might still atleast get a low-cost, PL-ready midfielder like Sander Berge to anchor the midfield . Brings positional discipline, decent physicality, good in the air, calm under pressure, progressive in possession. Better than none.🤷‍♂️

I still think Martinez is a far better midfielder than a central defender. He gets turned so easily when he’s the last man, lacks pace to play in a high line and can still get out jumped. If he didn’t have his passing ability, he’d be holding bench.

Ermin Mahmic is a very exciting, young attacking player - but he is not the “box-to-box midfield player with real physicality” that Martin O’Neill spoke of. Mahmic is dynamic, a good dribbler and comes alive in the final third. He shoots a LOT, good ball-striker but decision making not quite there yet. He’s an attacking midfielder who really only cares about going forward, I don’t think he’ll do much tracking back or defensive work for you. I like his profile, don’t think he’s the finished article yet but I think this profile of player is more suitable for a Celtic midfielder than the ‘Engels’ type player. However he is not the profile of player Martin O’Neill specifically spoke about. If we do want a “box-to-box” player, then from this region I’d be looking at Akram Bouras from Levski Sofia or Anzor Mekvabishvili from Universitatea Craiova.

WHY Sandro Tonali Could Be The Engine Of Spurs’ Midfield… Sandro Tonali isn’t the traditional holding midfielder many Tottenham fans might expect. And that’s exactly why he’d be such an interesting fit for Roberto De Zerbi. Tonali thrives in high-intensity football. He’s constantly scanning, covering huge distances and looking to play forward rather than simply recycle possession. His athleticism and ability to break lines make him the type of midfielder who can inject tempo into every phase of the game.
