I fully expected Widows to win Oscars back in ‘18. This is a great Chicago-based film, fueled by an A-List cast, a strong story, and an Oscar-winning director in Steve McQueen. But for some inexplicable reason, this film didn’t earn a single Oscar nom. Can someone tell me why?

Because while the cast was great , the rest of the movie was okay... It is by no means on an Oscar level.... Sorry but your post sounded like overhyping the film. Training Day above this one.

I came in hoping to love it but felt it was so dreary and a slog to watch. It’s not very suspenseful and to me, doesn’t really work as a genre movie very well. It always brightens up when Kaluuya enters but the rest of it isn’t as interesting

Love the one-shot of Colin Farrell getting into his vehicle with the camera mounted on the car as he drives back home. I felt this movie was a little inconsistent and a little bit totally off but when it hits it SLAPS

Ben Affleck gave a really strong performance in the George Clooney-directed film The Tender Bar. Affleck’s performance is heartfelt & mature. I thought this had an opening for a potential Oscar nomination, but it’s still some of Ben’s best work as an actor. An overall good film.

The Fisher King is one reason I love director Terry Gilliam. Featuring Jeff Bridges & Robin Williams, I’m not even sure what genre you’d classify this film in because it’s a combination of fantasy, comedy & drama. This earned Williams an Oscar nomination for Best Actor & won Mercedes Ruehl the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. This is a beautiful film.

Widows is a damn good film that was totally overlooked by The Academy. I’ve been thinking about this film more lately because it’s one of Robert Duvall’s final films. I love this entire cast. Every actor in this film is excellent. And it’s a great Chicago movie. It deserved more.

Fury didn’t receive any Oscar nominations. It didn’t break any box office records. It’s also not an all-time war film. But who cares? This a really good film with a great ensemble. It’s a movie I’ll likely keep tucked away in my back pocket ready to watch for the rest of my life.

Jessica Chastain is electric in Molly’s Game. This film earned an Aaron Sorkin an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay, but it should’ve also earned Chastain a Best Actress nomination. Chastain is asked to do so much this entire film- not to mention she narrates the whole story. I think her character’s evolution over the course of the story is enhanced by her acting. A beautiful film.

Boogie Nights is an astonishing film & the fact this is Paul Thomas Anderson’s second film blows my mind. I have no idea how he got Burt Reynolds, a living legend, to sign on to this film. I wish Reynolds would’ve won the Oscar, it would’ve made for a great Hollywood story.

Blood Diamond is a film I haven’t revisited since seeing it in theaters- and that changes tonight, people. I’m rewatching an Oscar-nominated Leonardo DiCaprio performance to prepare for Leo’s return to theaters in a month. I still remember this film fondly. I’ll report back soon.

Michael Clarke Duncan earned an #Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his outstanding work in The Green Mile. I never really write about this film- I should change that. This is such a great late ‘90s movie with a vintage Tom Hanks performance. Great, great film.

20 years ago, Brokeback Mountain lost the Oscar for Best Picture to Crash. It’s a decision that I still think the The Academy wishes it could take back. Everyone always talks about Heath Ledger’s brilliance in The Dark Knight, but he’s impossibly great in this film, which also earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Actor. Director Ang Lee is a creative genius.

Concussion was supposed to be Will Smith’s big push for an Oscar back in 2015, but the film wasn’t really received that well by audiences or critics. In hindsight, this is definitely a quality sports film that I don’t think the NFL wants people to see. Smith is really good here.

Roger Deakins earned an Oscar nomination for Best Cinematography for The Shawshank Redemption, a film which earned 7 Oscar nominations in total. Deakins pulls you so much closer to Andy’s journey through prison & it’s a huge reason the film is such a success. I really hope Deakins returns to Cinema again in the near future.
