I gave this video to gpt 5.6 Sol, asked it create a diffraction grating shader in Three.js. It took quite a few rounds but here it is

@threejs Dude this was already a free token resource

@LuksfayDev @threejs Still a fun experiment

@threejs Yeah, and i completaly missunderstud what u did. Thats is three js, and the free resoruces are css and js. maybe could adapt some of them and mixed it with ur project

@threejs nice, this is the one I made in three.js a while ago

@threejs made it with gemini 3.7 flash high

@threejs I gave this a try a few weeks ago, ended up with this version with the holographic foil effect border of the cards. Also used Sol 5.6 for this

@threejs Hologram effect very cool!

@threejs

@threejs Very cool!

@threejs I literally just watched that video.

@threejs Great video

@threejs That's honestly very convincing. I'm sure there's lots of smoke and mirrors and it may not work for all use cases, but it works remarkably well here.

@threejs Thanks Andrew! Love your video, really inspiring!

@threejs Omg that's craaaazy

@threejs Brilliant

@threejs 这是我用GPT5.6 sol 用three.js 制作的三国镭射卡片,而且我还把他开源了...

@threejs It isn't accurate to the card though, the starry film effect is easy. The color refraction across the whole surface of the card isn't. Yours looks like a flat texture shining through another flat texture with obvious bands. The bands on the real card are dependent on the POV.

@threejs Not perfect, probably will keep iterating on it

@threejs If I knew the word diffraction grating shader, I would be able to do this too

@threejs Not that straightforward actually, AI tend to fake screenspace effects or approximate with cheap animations

@threejs I know lol

@threejs Sloptuber : "you can't do this" Aislop : "i just did"

@threejs I was doing this same shit today with grok. Wtf

@threejs How did it go?

It fucking worked, but what I’m shocked about is how the universe works. I was home alone bored and told my self I wonder if grok can do this.hye grok make a holo Pokémon card. Not only it did it but made 2. Right after I was like crazy times. Told grok delete everything. A few hour later I see this post.

@threejs there is a cool project that has been around for a few years… i would feed that to Sol too and see what it does

@threejs 99% of being good with AI is just knowing the right words to use when you ask it to do shit, knowing the specific technical terms for the directions you want to give it makes a massive difference in whether or not it spits out something useful or pure slop

@threejs That's pretty cool. I wonder if it could also create shaders that are ready for use in C4D/Blender using Octane/Redshift. I'm often tasked with creating some wild materials like these and I always have to scratch my head for days or weeks to get close

@threejs I mean in Andrew Price’s video he already shared the external script to plugin for the effect, you can use that in blender

@threejs Counter-Strike has been doing it since 2014. (Probably made in 2013). The thing BGuru was talking about is a way more advanced technique using waves, and only Octane has managed to pull it off, thus far.

@threejs My guess is it's much easier for flat surfaces / single lights, and your shader assumes one or both of those.

@threejs I’d also be interested in the code/partial if you share

@threejs how much $ ?

@threejs That's cool!

@threejs @NathanWilbanks_ did it

@threejs Just made one a few months ago gotta update it

@threejs That’s sick

@threejs This isn't completely honest. GPT didn't do this, you and your expertise did. I wouldn't be able to make this effect with AI and I've tried.

@threejs Do you think Andrew could have just asked 5.6 Sol to do the shader for him in blender and be done instead of what he did?

@threejs It’s great he did the research and tried it out himself, the video was really good, 3b1b vibe. I’m not sure if sol using blender MCP can create it, not sure blender shader system is even capable of this, that’s why in his video he side loaded a script for this

@threejs That’s true and Andrew being able to explain these things is entertaining and why people watch him. Would be a silly video „no clue how it works but Sol did it lol“

@threejs Particularly nice one!

@threejs Astrajack sounds like a cool Pokémon tbh haha

@threejs ChatGPT refuse to create the exact card image, so I asked for a fictional card that looks similar 😂

@threejs Would you be willing to share the GitHub?

@threejs This is very nice. Would it perhaps be possible to see the code?

@threejs The problem isn't that none knows the math, but that the correct solution goes against compromises that are made all the time for the sake of optimization. Still very cool. Did you made it take a picture for input or it was just text?

@threejs Did use the target image for reference, but most of it is guiding the model to take a physics based approach

@threejs Do you want to share the repository?

@threejs Incredible! Thanks

@threejs beautiful, can a scientist explain why loving shiny things is hardcoded in my DNA?

@threejs This looks super awesome and I love all the different iterations in the comments. Is there a github / open source for this?

@josephepstein @threejs Thanks for sharing, but i cant find the "wave optical diffraction grating" on the repo or anything related to the foil / tcg ?

@josephepstein @threejs It’s in physical diffraction grating example under procedural material
