I learned something new about volleyball

The other team should be allowed to tackle her when she crosses over. Would be badass.

From the official FIVB rules below. Opposing player can't interfere.

Incredibly rare but yup its cool to see. Gotta be out of bounds (or not interrupt the other team). Also has to stay outside of the antennae as it comes back.

As long as it stays outside the antenna it's fine as it never went into the opposing team's court. If you play for more than a year you'll see people attempt this from time to time but it rarely works.

If CB was there he’d have called her out

in HS i did a dig around the same spot and miraculously avoided making contact with their players. the strangeness of the play had their squad standing there watching me confused, and, as my team tipped it over the net and into an undefended court. * players often step under the net. we were taught that if we spot someone doing that reach out and touch them. Much the same as football when a player gets into the neutral zone. ** I have officially taken 2 volleyballs in the face. one glanced off . . point them one popped up, spiked, . . point us Coach decided now's the time to show us something: Quick pro tip: hold your arms out straight, and place a thumb in the palm of your other hand. This is a basic volleyball receiving posture. So what do you do, if a ball is coming up near your head? Bend your elbows such that your hands/wrists are now in front of your face, and bounce the ball off of the back of your arms instead of the front. This is the point in our practice when i said "I've taken 2 balls off the face . . .and now you teach us that?" :) Did I ever mention I was an ugly volleyballer

Had to watch it like 4 times, i'm 99% sure it's legal because she never went on their actual side of the court or put a foot in bounds on their side, rather out of bounds the entire time

This is the pursuit rule. It is not legal in college.

The only random volleyball rule I know is that you can kick the ball to save the rally. No idea where I picked that up from

Pursuit rule. Not legal in all leagues

@grok what are the rules in volleyball on crossing underneath the net to get to a ball… Can you break down this rule set with the video?

It looks like she’s going under the net in bounds but she isn’t. That blue paint is out of bounds so she’s just going somewhere out of bounds to hit the ball which is always legal. That’s why the opposing team didn’t try to get the ball, it was about to land out of bounds.

Yup - called the pursuit rule Has been illegal at the college/hs levels - ncaa giving a try this year

Main thing is it has to be outside the antennae when it comes back over. If it goes inside, it's illegal.

Looking forward to more volleyball videos from Jomboy!

I could see pursuit outside of the pole (not under the net) to bring the hit back, but this could interfere with the ref. Under the net seems to be putting the opposing players in hazard for collision.

@zhan_fierce interesting. I just learnt something new

She hit the ball back without it going over the net, so it was just like playing it from the side. I’ve always imagined someone might do that by running around the net rather than under.

I got to know this now thanks for sharing

She is the best in the world! @GoBearcatsVB legend! @Jomboy_ , Got to get @jtomm19 on the program to talk about the play!

It wasn't legal 25+ years ago, they changed a few rules in the late 90s. Volleyball used to only able to score if you are serving, and only losing the right to serve when failing to score

@JomboyMedia @Zutroy_Jones what a wild rule!

Why didn't she just slam it on their court?

Volleyball has some dumb rules. You can also kick the ball over the net. 🥴😂

You have to go outside the antenna in order to save it!

Pursuit!

Other team should be able to box her out.

Legal but very wrong. That side should be prohibited for her!

Man, there are some crazy volleyball plays where a players chases the ball like that and actually sets up a hitter

@JomboyMedia It’s allowed in pro leagues but every league I’ve played in growing up this was indeed illegal

I knew she could hit it on their side, but I thought she had to go around the post, not under the net. I learned something too.

Yup.. learned something new..

@Marty_Byrde24 It has to go back behind the anthena to count

@JomboyMedia New play for 2026? @carolinerkerr @EveRackhamWatt 👀👀
