this has been my favorite development to follow on twitter, ur indirectly making what shouldve been the bedrock version we have now since u wont recreate minecraft in its entirety, (understandable) would u be open to passing the torch and letting others possibly modernize it?

Absolutely outstanding! 👏 Will you limit your PC port to the same or a similar RAM usage as the GameCube version? (outside debug builds, I guess ^^) That way you could basically have the full RAM contents in L3 cache all the time on relatively modern machines! 😮

With a render distance of 64 chunks, this already fits within a 64 MB L3 cache. To put that into perspective, that's 460 million blocks packed into just 64 MB of RAM.

This week, I overhauled concurrent heap defragmentation (akin to garbage collection) in my voxel game, achieving microsecond-level pause times and O(1) scalability across all platforms. Since existing research didn't fit my needs, I built my own defragmentation algorithm from first principles. The new system is a game-changer for the Gamecube and Dreamcast, where memory can easily become a bottleneck. These improvements eliminate stutters, even with millions of allocated objects like chunks and entities. In the first clip, the PC version runs 100,000 objects (render distance: 32) with no issues. The second clip in the reply ramps up to half a million objects (render distance: 64) and still holds steady — pause times stayed rock solid.

Blasting through an existing world file at 2800 km/h, holding a perfect 60 FPS with a 64-chunk render distance on the PC port of my Gamecube voxel engine. Feels unreal how well this thing is running. This is shaping up to be one of the most high-performance Minecraft-style voxel engines out there!

I've been mostly working on the internal systems lately for my #Dreamcast engine. The PC port gave me the debugging tools I needed to improve complex systems like the memory manager. • Audio is now working on the Dreamcast version • The renderer runs 20% faster on the Dreamcast • Heap allocation is 300% faster on average and 200% faster on worst case. While this had minimal impact on performance for the #Gamecube and PC versions, it was a significant bottleneck on the Dreamcast. • Increased real-time heap defragmentation throughput by using a new multi-regional heap structure, which also sets the foundation for DRAM bank-aware memory allocation. There's still plenty of room for more optimizations in Meese Engine. In fact, some optimizations found in Minecraft have yet to be implemented in this engine! #retrogamedev #indiegamedev

Yes. I recently "resurrected" my cat PS1 game and even ported it on PC too. I want to do a lot more work on it soon and make some real levels/places for it. Here it is running in 60 FPS natively on PC, but still being a PS1 game at heart... :D

I got Black Ops 2 running natively in Minecraft. Not through a browser, not on a screen inside the game. I ported Hijacked to Java and it runs directly on Minecraft’s own OpenGL context. The map, collision, bots, navmesh, weapons and rendering are all running inside Minecraft as a Fabric mod. This started with me putting my browser port on a PC screen inside Minecraft. That worked, but I wanted to see if I could go much further and actually port the game itself. So I had GPT Astra rebuild the whole thing in Java. Still a lot left to do, but this is now an actual game running inside Minecraft rather than Minecraft displaying one.

When you look at games on the PC Engine and Neo Geo—arguably the most powerful 8-bit and 16-bit consoles—it can honestly feel overwhelming. Fatal Fury Special was ported to the PC Engine CD, and at that level, it’s fair to call it an almost perfect conversion. The Super Famicom version suffered from hardware limitations and was handled by Takara, a different company, so the results weren’t particularly impressive. In contrast, the PC Engine CD version of Fatal Fury Special was developed directly by SNK as a test case for CD-based game production before the release of the Neo Geo CD, which explains its exceptionally high level of quality.

Animal Crossing running natively on macOS, iPhone, and iPad for the first time. Not emulated. The original Animal Crossing for GameCube rebuilt as a native Apple Silicon source port. ACreTeam decompiled the game. The ACGC-PC-Port contributors got it running as native code. Encounter built Aurora, the generic graphics and platform foundation that can render GameCube-style games through Metal. Codex 5.6 Sol used that foundation to get the actual Animal Crossing game running through Metal, then built Bellpad around it: the Apple Silicon migration, macOS app, iPhone and iPad app, Files import, touch controls, controller support, save import/export, native text entry, and the IPA pipeline. I set the goal, did the research, and directed the testing and iteration. Full source and IPA below.

Time for a status update and direct hardware capture of another high-profile AAA title coming to the Sega Dreamcast... jnmartin's eagerly anticipated port of Sonic R! As you can see from the footage, the game looks and runs phenomenally on the DC, with all of the fancy lighting from the Sega Saturn version, plus the dynamic weather system from the PC release, along with the banger soundtrack present and accounted for on the little white box of Dreams, which is now able to run it at twice the resolution, with crisp progressive-scan video display output! One of the most exciting and interesting aspects of this project is that jnmartin has taken the port to the next level and has implemented online connectivity and even internet cross-play, so that you can race against players running the game on Windows, MacOS, and Linux on your Dreamcast!
