The #Gamecube game engine now boasts a render distance of 13 chunks, surpassing the render distance of Minecraft on the Switch (docked). Cloud shadows now distort as they move and soften during sunrise and sunset. #retrogaming #indiegamedev #gamedev #Dreamcast

EVOMON has just landed on Nintendo Switch! 🔥 Grab your consol and start training your cute and colorful pixel monsters now! 🎮👾 🔴Game is here =>

I feel like you're not programming in assembly, but in 1s and 0s. Your optimizations for Gamecube are insane. Chance you'll port this to a newer console someday to see what you can pull off?

Yes, porting to the Wii should be straightforward since it's basically just a 50% overclocked Gamecube with extra RAM in terms of specs.

and a laptop with 4x better specs couldnt manage this on java. people dont give a shit about optimization in todays world, you are a blessing

So now I can enjoy Cube Game on the Game Cube. Perfection

This is easily one of the coolest optimization projects I've ever seen. Absolutely cannot wait to see more

When GameCube can run Minecraft better then the Switch

Would this game happen to have a physical release planned? I would love to support this in order to have a physical copy.

Your work is so incredible, it's honestly baffling what you've made possible I gotta ask - are you planning to / do you think it is possible to make the tree leaves look nicer? more full and less hollow? I think it's the weakest looking part of your engine/port right now

Absolutely, the renderer still requires further improvements before I can increase the tree and leaf density. There's still plenty of room for further optimization.

its actually a joke how badly optimised MC on switch is 😭 gamecube beating its ass

The cloud shadows are too dark and jarring in my opinion.

Thanks for the feedback. I've found them jarring as well after testing the engine many times. This is just a temporary setup. As the engine evolves and more visual features are added, the cloud shadows will become more subtle. For now, they stand out because they're one of the few effects available.

This is so cool, but what about the Dreamcast version ?

The Dreamcast version won't include cloud shadows, but other visual effects are on the roadmap. The cost of implementing cloud shadows is too high compared to other more affordable effects that will offer a similar level of visual improvements.

This is Beautiful

OH MY GOD EVERY TIME I SEE. SO FUCKIN COOL

Imagine having a lower render distance than a console that came out in 2001 💀

Good job!!!

Dude this looks beautiful

Minecraft, but it's an obscure gamecube only game that only sold 10k copies and costs $2000 dollars on Ebay

Optimization is king! Awesome work man!

So, I guess this would suggest the Switch team isn't really pushing the system to its limits then?

Maybe somebody said it before but, if you feel like doing so, I would love a very lengthy write-up of all the technical details that went into making this possible (or a +4h YT video if that's your jam). I feel it could also help me with some vaguely-related projects of mine.

This gives mad Alpha Minecraft vibes. I'd give anything to have this nostalgia

how is this even logically possible

this would be cool to see on the OG xbox

You've earned a follow from me. I'm VERY interested to see this project continue.

Impressive

Unbelievably cool 👌🏻

@MojangSupport why do i have 5 fps on switch. When they can do this on gamecube which is literally. Thousanths of the processing power.

That’s amazing. Surprise how the Switch version doesn’t have that kind of render distance

@Paz65073314

This is insane. I feel like there's nothing to improve on visually besides leaf density and potentially adding mip mapping. Also, what a great way to market your game by building off Minecraft directly to construct your engine!

Cloud shadows are so fucking peak

This is so fucking cool

@notch

This project is so amazingly cool god damn

If only the actual game could be this well optimized and look this beautiful
