Yesterday I drove to Columbus to testify before Ohio’s Joint Data Center Committee thinking it was a serious effort to protect Ohio communities. Today I found out several of the members have conflicts of interest. Ohioans are being told this committee exists to provide oversight and protect citizens from the impacts of massive data center development. But look at who is sitting on the committee. One co-chair owns and manages oil and gas companies, well services, and businesses connected to energy infrastructure. Another co-chair runs an industrial contracting company that could potentially benefit from large-scale infrastructure projects. Another member leads a commercial and industrial construction company. Several committee members have received campaign contributions from utility, energy, construction, and power-sector PACs. Meanwhile, these same politicians support policies promoting massive energy expansion for data centers. So here’s my question: How can Ohioans have confidence this committee is independent when so many members have professional, political, or financial ties to industries that stand to benefit from data center growth? I didn’t come to Columbus to participate in political theater. I came because Ohio families have legitimate questions about energy demand, water consumption, environmental impacts, property rights, privacy concerns, and the long-term consequences of building an AI and data center economy across our state. Instead of an independent watchdog, are we looking at a committee designed to reassure the public while the decisions have already been made? Ohioans deserve answers. Ohioans deserve transparency. And Ohioans deserve a committee that represents the public, not the industries that profit from the outcome. Was this committee created to protect Ohio citizens? Who's Really Profiting from Alberta's Data Centers? The Alberta government calls data centers a multi-billion-dollar opportunity. But what's the return for Albertans? These projects demand enormous amounts of electricity, natural gas, water and public infrastructure. They place new pressures on municipalities and local communities, yet the government has provided very little information about the long-term economic benefits to Albertans. How much provincial tax revenue will they generate? What will they cost taxpayers and how will they affect affordability and inflation? Why are municipalities and local residents being sidelined in the process? I'm not opposed to data centers. Alberta should absolutely compete for investment. But attracting investment at any cost isn't good government. If Albertans are expected to provide the land, infrastructure, energy and public services that make these projects possible, then Albertans should be the first to benefit - not the last. There’s a serious issue that deserves transparency and accountability: Historical climate records exist, and they should be consistent, traceable, and publicly verifiable. When adjustments are made, the public deserves clear explanations, not blind trust. Right now, many people are questioning whether data is being altered in ways that exaggerate trends to justify extreme policies. That includes concerns about geoengineering proposals and the potential health and environmental risks tied to atmospheric spraying. This isn’t about denying science; it’s about demanding honesty in it. If decisions are being made that impact our air, our health, and our future, then the data behind those decisions must be open, accurate, and beyond manipulation. We’re asking questions. Data center developers have to earn the trust of the communities where we build, and that starts with complete transparency. Bring your own power, be clear about water usage and emissions, create high paying jobs, and make sure the economic benefits are understood by everyone. That’s exactly what we intend to do in Box Elder. We have work to do to earn the community’s support, but the facts will be public, from water and power to jobs and tax revenue. If you want to build in a community for decades, you have a responsibility to become an asset to it.

Each one can guzzle up to 5 million gallons per day just to cool the servers. Google’s New Albany facility? Already sucking down 348,000 gallons daily. One facility. We get 40 inches of rain a year. Ohio should be water-rich. Instead, we’re pumping groundwater faster than it can recharge. Wells are dropping. Aquifers are thinning. By 2050, industrial water demand is projected to explode 120%. 1/ Maine just hit pause on giant AI data centers. Why hasn’t Ohio? The Maine House passed a bill to temporarily ban new large data centers — anything 20 megawatts or bigger — until November 2027. That’s enough power for over 15,000 homes each. They want time to study the impact on the electricity grid, water usage, and the environment. 2/ Electricity bills have already increased significantly in recent years. Local towns have pushed back against these projects. Maine is saying: we need to understand the consequences before allowing more development. They’ve acknowledged there’s not enough information yet on the long-term impact of these massive facilities. 3/ When the data is incomplete, the smart move is to pause and evaluate. Ohio’s legislature has the same ability — and has already acknowledged gaps in understanding the long-term impacts. They’ve acknowledged there’s not enough information yet on the long-term impact of these massive facilities. 3/ When the data is incomplete, the smart move is to pause and evaluate. Ohio’s legislature has the same ability — and has already acknowledged gaps in understanding the long-term impacts. The debate over the Utah data center project has grown far beyond Utah. My position remains simple, look at the facts. Every permit, design plan, environmental review, and public filing will be available for scrutiny. The project should be judged on data, not misinformation. What started as a local controversy is now a national story. Following Senator Cotton’s call for a DOJ investigation, questions are being raised about who is funding opposition campaigns against data centers, power infrastructure, and development projects across the country.
