Ever since I bought an arcade cabinet, I’ve become really interested in arcade games. Similar to console games, you can buy arcade game PCBs and run them by connecting them directly. Capcom games are a bit unique in that they use a six-button layout, so they require a separate connector, but aside from that, the setup is surprisingly simple. You can also play these games through emulators, but the feeling of enjoying them on real hardware is something else entirely. Super Street Fighter II was the first game for Capcom’s arcade system, CPS2, and compared to CPS1, both the graphics and sound were significantly improved.

I'm playing GTA V on a PS3 and its been such a fun experience. I remember when was a kid and playing this for the first time, I didn't give a damn about how BAD the framerate was during driving. I was constantly in awe by how realistic this game looked back then that the framerate wasn't something that was going to stop me from enjoying it. Don't get me wrong, this game is running on a PS3 that has 256mb of RAM and 256mb of VRAM which is some black magic itself and the fact that Rockstar Games managed to have such a massive open world game with that much traffic and NPCs running in real-time is a feat on its own.

The reason I got into game collecting was the Neo Geo MVS arcade system. Around 2005, I came across an arcade game community where modders gathered—people who converted arcade games so they could be played at home on consoles. While being active in that community for a long time, I started collecting MVS games one by one. Eventually, that expanded into collecting console systems, PC games, and later even full arcade cabinets. I also began collecting Neo Geo AES from that time. Just when you thought claw machines couldn’t be more of a scam. Try operating it from your phone. But there's something here that I really like. I can't quite articulate what it is yet. It feels like the future. It's a claw machine, but not just any claw machine. These are connected to the internet and people can play them from anywhere in the world, from their phones. They're controlling a real physical machine in real time, trying to win real physical prizes. And if they win, the prize either gets mailed to them or converted into a digital form and emailed to them instantly. You will not believe how many plays this thing got in one night. People are obsessed with this because it takes the satisfaction of a claw machine, the nostalgia, the challenge, the thrill of winning something, and it makes it accessible from anywhere at any time. You don't have to be at an arcade. You don't have to be at a mall. You can be sitting on your couch at midnight and decide you want to try to win a toy or a gift card or whatever's loaded in the machine. And this is interesting because you only need to own one physical machine, but you can have thousands of people playing it all over the world. And if multiple people want to play at the same time, then you can charge extra. If you have a fixed supply and high demand, your price goes up. The prizes can be anything, toys, electronics, gift cards, merch, whatever. People can share with their friends. They play over and over. It becomes content. It becomes competition. People stream themselves trying to win. And my mind is exploding with possibilities because it's not just a vending machine business. Sleeping Dogs was slept on and hugely underrated. For a game that came out almost 14 years ago, it had a development budget of 30 million dollars and it managed to do such a fantastic job at everything that it had to offer. For starters, this game had a solid story, great character, amazing fighting mechanics with different finishers, parkour, good driving mechanics and small details that some open world games today wont even bother to add. Melee Combat is fantastic, you can grab different objects from the ground and smash NPCs with them or throw at them, this added so much versatility in combat. Finishers are also extremely satisfying, any object that is highlighted in red will guarantee you that you'll get to see one of the most fun ways to finish off an enemy. While driving mechanics were nothing too spectacular, it still offered you a great way to play while driving by having Ramming added to vehicles so you could push other vehicles away while you're being chased, in-game races were also very fun to play in my experience! Its a real shame this game didn't get nowhere near the recognition it deserved because I truly believe if we'd ever gotten a sequel, it would improve upon everything that the first game lacked and it would be an amazing franchise.

Okay, the more I play Sword Art Online Fractured Daydream, the more I want to kick myself in the ass for not playing this game sooner. LLENN has become one of my favorites among the Rouge Class in the game. There are over 20 characters, and each of them plays differently from the others, which makes it hard to settle on a main to rank up. LLENN is so damn fun to play. She has dual pistols as her secondary weapons. Her movement is crazy good, and the shooting is fun. The combat knife for close-range combat is flashy as hell, lol. I wanted to score an S rank on this mission, and I was able to pull it off, and received some pretty good loot too! This arcade-style scoring makes this game addictive for me. This is my first introduction to the character, since I never played or watched SAO past the first season. This shorty knows how to put in work XD

Before this #vibejam, I was just casually creating game prototypes for fun, but this time, the Vibejam deadline became a good forcing function that pushed me to actually finish one. While this game is more of a demo than a complete product, it gave me a taste of how challenging it is to fully complete a game. It requires brutal task prioritization, effective time management, and tons of quality assurance (QA). As many say, the last 10% is the hardest, and I’d argue it’s doubly so for games. I now have even more respect for game developers at all levels who manage to ship their games. And there you have it, my game, Gnome Mercy: Insect Invasion. It’s a Vampire Survivors-style game where you play as a gnome on a rampage, annihilating alien insects invading his garden. At the start of each run, the lord of the garden bestows a blessing if you can answer his riddle, powered by an LLM (with fallback riddles in case it fails). The objective is to fight through waves of enemies and survive as long as possible. A huge shoutout to Retro Diffusion by Astropulse for all the AI-generated sprites, artworks, icons, and more. The music was created by Not Jam, the retro chiptunes are amazing. This game is a special homage to Luca 🧄, creator of Vampire Survivors, for inventing the best game genre in recent years! And no, I don’t code at all. The code is 100% generated by @windsurf and built on PhaserJS. Game link below👇
