You can't compare Cyberpunk 2077 launch to GTA 6 and here's exactly why Cyberpunk 2077 was the CDPR's first installment to feature a futuristic city with tons of NPCs and fast moving cars, something which was never done before on Witcher games. The gameplay video from Cyberpunk 2077 shown off in 2019 had a clear text showing "work in progress - does not represent the final look of the game" After the launch disaster of Cyberpunk 2077, Marcin Iwiński also explained that the reason the game had so many bugs is that the game was designed for PC first in mind, then scaled down to consoles that still had a hard drive (PS4 and Xbox One) an extremely difficult task on its own, combined with the fact that the game development progress took a major hit during the pandemic. Rockstar Games on the other hand has a much different engine and experience working on large scale open world game filled with tons of NPCs and fast moving cars, including the fact that they're developing this game for current gen consoles first, then scaling it up for a PC release not vice versa. Are we guys suddenly forgetting the fact that Rockstar Games managed to get GTA V running on a PS3 console which had 256mb of VRAM and 256mb of RAM at that time? The reason Rockstar Games has shown zero gameplay of GTA 6 is because historically they save the gameplay showcase before the game launches, GTA 6 Trailer 2 came out in 2025 and all footage for that Trailer was captured on a base PS5 with a mix of gameplay and cutscenes. They'll obviously show off more gameplay on August 27th, but comparing Cyberpunk 2077 to GTA 6 isn't exactly fair for both companies. On one hand, it was CDPR's first time making that kind of genre of a game and on the other hand, it isn't Rockstar Games first time making a Grand Theft Auto game.

What Rockstar Games did with GTA V in terms of optimization on a PS3 console is mindblowing! This level of traffic here is so dense that I struggle to make sense on how exactly they've made this possible on a console that has only 512MB total memory system, hell compare that to Windows 11 which averages to 5GB of RAM usage during idle and you can see how little resources Rockstar Games had working with here. If you remember, when Cyberpunk 2077 launched on PS4, Night City was practically a Ghost Town when you drove a car due to how much it would affect the framerate. Even most open-world games today don't add heavy traffic to save on resources, but GTA V is out here squeezing every last drop of my PS3 console just to add this number of vehicles for seemingly no reason all I can say is that Rockstar really knows how to push the limits of what a console can achieve and I can't wait to see what they're going to do with Grand Theft Auto 6.

If you think GTA VI is going to be difficult to optimize for current gen consoles which all have 16GB of RAM respectively (except Xbox Series S) Then you can't imagine the pain Rockstar Games must have gone through when they had to optimize GTA V for PS3 and Xbox 360. Each one of these consoles had 512MB of total memory, PS3 had 256MB XDR DRAM and 256MB VRAM. For comparison, google chrome with 3 tabs open can take up to 2GB of RAM memory today. Yet, somehow Rockstar Games managed to have this game running on an internal resolution of 720p, targeting 30FPS which is an incredible feat in my opinion. I'm always blown away by the fact that Rockstar Games casually made some of the best and most realistic water physics in 2008. GTA IV is the prime example of Rockstar Games focusing heavily on bringing realistic physics in a video-game. Everything from how a car handles, NPC ragdoll and water simulation in Grand Theft Auto IV was way ahead of its time and it even beats most of AAA games that we've seen these past few years when it comes to those game mechanics. Imagine how much ahead GTA 6 is going to be now that Rockstar Games has much more processing power to work with on current gen consoles

The fact that Rockstar managed to put all of this tech inside a game made for the PS3 is truly incredible, the physics in GTA IV were way ahead of its time GTA VI is really going to take full advantage of current gen consoles and I can't wait to check it out.

One criticism I always see towards games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto VI recently is the topic of small details. "Why does a game need so many details, it doesn't make the experience any better and takes longer to develop" While I do agree with the fact that Rockstar Games development schedules in between each release keep getting longer, the fact is that when you aim for such a high level of realism in a video-game, its not about graphics anymore, its about immersion. I'm sure that if you played RDR2, you know that your horse sweating or its balls shrinking in the cold don't add much to the gameplay itself, but it makes the game feel like its real. This is precisely what sets apart Rockstar Games from other game studios, the level of immersion you get in those games is unbeaten. RDR2, a game designed for the PS4 console has a level of fluidity and immersion that I have yet to see in a video-game from any other game studio, each game mechanic seems to work flawlessly that it feels like a living and breathing open world game. Hell, sometimes you feel bad for shooting an NPC which never happened to me in a video-game before. When you're playing it, hours can go by and you don't even. In other open-world games, sometimes you can notice limitations, for example the same NPCs appearing in one object or the same scripted conversations. RDR2 manages to make that gap of a video-game and reality feel thinner, not get rid of it entirely of course. Making such a massive game filled with tons of details means that it can be can be played for multiple years after its release and not feel outdated. Its not all about details of course, when a game takes so long to develop, the stakes get higher each time and Rockstar Games has to make sure that they deliver on the story that is being told too, hence the reason why their games have always been historically good in terms of writing. Now to address the elephant int he room, the main issue is that as the complexity increases for each new release and optimizing all of these systems to work in tandem, the development time increases and we get longer periods of waiting. Is all of this worth it? In my opinion, yes. Its Rockstar Games after all, they have the budget necessary and the talent to achieve this kind of feat. Not only does it raise the bar for what is possible to do in a video-game, but it also is highly rewarding when you play the game for the first time and its unlike anything you've seen these past couple of years. When I finished playing Red Dead Redemption 2 for the first time, every new game that came out felt outdated for me. Just as technology keeps going forward, the same applies here with open world games too. What are your thoughts on this topic?

Why don't we have this level of NPC density in recent AAA Games? Assassins Creed: Unity was by no means perfect, you can clearly see some NPCs popping into the frame while you're playing and some others not load properly, but it came out in 2014! It was designed on previous-gen consoles that ran on a Hard Drive and it was a game that was so rushed, Ubisoft never bothered to give it the love that it deserved. If there's one thing that still fascinates me about this game even today is the sheer number of NPCs that are rendered into this open world, it simply feels alive. By 2025, you'd think that most AAA game studios would have already gotten over these issues like NPCs popping into the frame and we would have Open World games that feel more alive than ever before. Nope, instead of huge number of NPCs, modern gaming companies are more focused on bringing Ray Tracing features which I have nothing against if it wasn't for having a such a small number of NPCs. I'm not an expert to determine what the exact reason behind having so few NPCs really is but I honestly would love if Ubisoft gave another shot at this kind of tech. Thankfully one of the games that looks like it will have this huge number of NPCs is Grand Theft Auto VI, by the screenshots and Trailers alone, it reminded me of how alive Unity really felt and I can't wait until that game comes out.

One distinct memory I have from playing games in the 80s was that every once in a while I would stumble across a game that looked epic but I had exactly zero clue what to do. Wizball was such a game. Looked and sounded pretty cool, but... "where to go, what to do, and what's the goal here?" - something along those lines went through my mind at the time. I stuck with it an eventually (much later) figured it out. Do you remember a game that you played but didn't really know what the goal was or how to get there?

Just finished the Attack on Titan Crossover quest in Assassin's Creed Shadows. My jaw dropped during this cutscene, not due to how amazing it was but how bad it was. I'd say this is the most low-effort I've seen that has been put into a Ubisoft game, nothing screamed interesting about this quest and when you finally get to face a titan, you're just running away from it until its trapped underground and that's it, nothing happens. You don't win anything except for a promotion of new cosmetics that cost around $20. I wasted 30 minutes of my life completing this so you don't have to endure this

Ubisoft has gained this reputation after years making games that have been bad by current AAA standards and dogshit practices that every time I post Assassin’s Creed BF Resynced content, there has always been a comment or reply asking me “how much did Ubisoft pay you?” To make it clear, I bought this game with my own money and I was never paid to praise or promote it. Resynced has its fair share of serious issues that cannot be overlooked; buying all paid cosmetics costing more than the game itself, the cutscenes being capped to 30FPS or the fact that it requires online connection in the physical disc. All of these are valid issues and criticism that Ubisoft as a company should do better. That being said it, compared to what Ubisoft was making these past few years, Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced for the most part is a pretty good video-game imo, they've done an excellent job at remaking the original game. The upgraded visuals make the experience much better, new game mechanics like underwater swimming at any time and the removal of loading screens when docking or boarding is such a welcome feature. They've also done an amazing job at optimizing this game for PC which is quite rare these days for open world games. What are your thoughts?

The fact that this whole cutscene in Cyberpunk 2077 is rendered in-game instead of being pre-rendered shows how Goated the REDengine 4 truly was in some scenarios like these. Loading assets and switching cutscenes at such a fast rate is incredible and all of this worked seamlessly. CD Projekt Red announced that they will be switching to UE5 in 2022 which has me worried, I really hope they optimize this new engine as much as possible for future titles, especially Cyberpunk 2 which will require loading assets at a fast rate while maintaining a stable framerate without shuttering issues in such a dense city filled with NPCs.

Sleeping Dogs was a diamond that was never recognized by the general public. It's mind-blowing how underrated this game was For a title that was released in PS3; it had stunning interiors, shops, eating and drinking animations, parkour, fighting skills, amazing gun action, very good car driving physics and graphics that hold up extremely well even to this day It's a shame that we never got to see what Sleeping Dogs 2 would've looked like due to it being cancelled. Man Watch Dogs 2 didn’t get nowhere near the attention that it deserved. This Game has an amazing art direction, has some nice little details, parkour and is so beautiful graphically that this could very well be passed as a current gen Game. I don’t exactly know how Ubisoft managed to go from this to the garbage called Watch Dogs Legion and butcher the series. Nonetheless, playing Watch Dogs 2 makes me believe that Ubisoft has that dog in them which is capable of making an amazing open world Game if they only focus on delivering a complete experience and improve on their storywriting.

Westwood was such an amazing game studio. One of their timeless classics is Eye of the Beholder 2, which was released in 1991. The intro alone gave me nerd chills - anyone who ever played Dungeons & Dragons would remember Khelben Blackstaff, and if he considers you his friend, what an honour! The game itself is your typical dungeon crawler. I don't mean that in a disrespectful way but appreciating it for what it was and is, a great game of its genre. Excellent graphics (I am such a sucker for that 90s pixel style), good sound effects and music, and an easy to use interface, making the real-time fights fast paced but manageable. Among the greats of Bard's Tale, Might and Magic, Ultima, and Wizardry, the likes of Eye of the Beholder or Lands of Lore were probably a tier below, but I always loved coming back to them. To me, this game is emblematic of the early 90s, and for that I love it.

To give you a perspective on how advanced the NPC interaction system in GTA VI is going to be, here's a direct comparison between GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 In GTA V, the only option is to greet or insult NPCs depending on the character that you're playing as, in this case here Trevor will insult them. Red Dead Redemption 2 on the other hand has a completely different NPC interaction system where you have the option to greet, antagonize or rob NPCs. These options alone can give you the freedom to greet an NPC first, then immediately antagonize them to allow for different outcomes based on how you choose to interact with NPCs. This alone was a game changer and you can expect Grand Theft Auto VI to have an even more complex NPC interaction system compared to Red Dead Redemption 2, with more dialogue options and different outcomes. Red Dead Redemption 2 on the other hand has a completely different NPC interaction system where you have the option to greet, antagonize or rob NPCs. These options alone can give you the freedom to greet an NPC first, then immediately antagonize them to allow for different outcomes based on how you choose to interact with NPCs. To this day, even 37 years later, the game I associate the most with the Psygnosis logo is Shadow of the Beast. The game itself was fascinating - in the sense that graphics and sound were both perfect 10s, while gameplay was a 3 at best. Maybe I am being a bit harsh, but I think we can all agree that there was a massive gap between how it looked/sounded and how it played. And yet its burned into my memory forever and certainly has its place in gaming history. Psygnosis published around 100 games, but that logo will always give me Shadow of the Beast vibes.

Watching Rockstar Games show a huge amount of interiors and enterable stores in that GTA VI Extended Look was insane. As most of us already know, GTA V doesn't have that many enterable stores or interiors due to the stuff they had to cut back when they developed this game for PS3 consoles. GTA VI is not only going to be bigger in map size compared to GTA V, but in depth too.
