I think it is important that everyone realize that, within months, how people relate to writing is going to change, for better & for worse. I have been playing with Google Docs with built-in AI & it is clear that most people will start much of their writing work...

After more experiments, some thoughts on what the “write it for me” Button might mean.

Going to change the signal to noise ratio of the world dramatically If I can generate a decent essay without putting any real effort into it, we’re going to be swimming in a sea of generated garbage Counter point - great thinkers can become 100x more prolific writers

Already do this for stuff I don’t want to write. But it never quite says what I need it to. Still, 80/20 rule. Much faster to do the final 20% editing than start from scratch. Have used it for outlines too.

Tried integrating AI into my writing, only works well for outlines and brainstorming but dislike it for the actual writing since it feels so inauthentic and feel like my voice won't be present in the content

How did you get access to GPT-4 in Google docs? I've tried all workspace services claiming to access GPT-4, but since I don't have a GPT-4 API it doesn't work. Is Bard as good as GPT-4 when it comes to copywriting/editing, structuring, organizing and categorizing?

It is Google's official version, integrated with Bard. I have the Beta, everyone will have it soon.

Writing without AI assistance will become an absurd idea.

We’ll start with using an AI draft to create the style then, manually removing the hallucinations and adding additional substance for the second draft, and the final draft will be for personalizing and minor edits.

Yes for better and worse. Writing is also the thinking process. And I am afraid it can inhibit the thinking process essential to unlock some aspects of augmentation. But we can’t go back.

Elon Musk on Grok: “I think an AI that is sort of SpaceX’s baby will be a very good AI. I think SpaceX is a collection of some of the very best humans on Earth, both in capability and morality and goodness, and I think we want to have an AI that is born of that capability and that morality and that goodness. I think that’s very, very important. So I’d like to encourage people to help out, actually, with the AI hardware on the ground and the AI software and, of course, with the AI satellites. Solar is going to be a very important part of that. The TerraFab will be a very important part of that, but we must also succeed on the software front, and we’re going to be training Grok on the sum total of all SpaceX information. So in a way, it will be trained on you. You will effectively be the parents of the AI. It will inherit your thoughts and ideas and beliefs, and I think that’s a good thing. So, yeah, we’ve got to win here on the AI hardware and the AI software. That maybe is the most important message. I think that is actually the most important message I wanted to convey today is that we must win on AI because the future is overwhelmingly AI and robots. So we won’t ultimately be able to control the AI. It’ll be too smart for that. But just like if you have a child that is a super genius child, you can still instill in that child the values and beliefs that you think are good and right. And so that’s why it’s incredibly important that we succeed with Grok. So, yeah, well, Grok 4.5 you’ve tried probably. We’ve got 4.6 coming out in about a week. And then 4.7 should be really pretty special. So I’d like to encourage everyone at SpaceX to use AI and to make it better.”

Alexandr Wang: “Hire people who give a shit” The ScaleAI founder is asked for the best advice he has for founders, to which he responds: “The biggest thing is you have to really, really care.” Alex explains this is also the number one trait he looks for in people he hires: “When you interview and interact with people, you can tell who phones it in and whose work is so incredibly important to them that it eats at them if they don’t do great work. One of the greatest indicators of how much I enjoyed working with people and how successful they were at Scale was just the degree to which their soul is invested in the work they do.” It’s important that the CEO lives this principle too. “I still review every hire at the company,” Alex says. “I care immensely. I work with all these people who care immensely. And that lets us feel much more deeply what happens in the business, so we learn more quickly and adapt more quickly, and I think that’s been quite important to the success that we’ve had.” One of Scale AI’s values is that “quality is fractal.” “High standards trickle down within an organization,” Alex explains. “Most of the time when people realize their manager or their manager’s manager doesn’t really care, that removes the desire for them to care. So it’s incredibly important that high standards and care for quality is a deeply embedded tenet of the entire organization.” Video source: Y Combinator (2025)
