I thought this was pretty cool. Founded in 1925 the Cambridge University Air Squadron (CUAS) was the world's first University Air Squadron establishing its core role in preparing future RAF officers before World War II. Here is footage from 1930 w/audio of that training.🫡

#WATCH | Nal Air Base, Bikaner, Rajasthan: Air Force Spokesperson, Wing Commander Jaideep Singh says, "MiG-21 has served in the Indian Air Force for almost six decades now. Since it is stopping its operational flying, I think it is the right time to at least cover the history of MiG-21. The MiG-21, the MiG part is an acronym for Mikoyan and Gurevich, which was a designer and producer of this aircraft. MiG-21 in the Indian Air Force came in the year 1963. The first 28 Squadron was raised in Chandigarh of MiG-21. The MiG-21 being the first supersonic aircraft, the squadron was called the First Supersonics. Thereafter, MiG-21 was operationally deployed and involved in the 1965 operations. It had its fair share of operational history in 1965. Thereafter, coming to the 1971 war wherein MiG-21 was totally operationally deployed in all the squadrons. And the most important one of all is the attack on Governor's residence in Dhaka, that time East Pakistan, now Bangladesh, on 14th December 1971. On 15th December, the governor resigned. On 16th December, Pakistan surrendered. We had 93,000 prisoners of war and all because of one turning point which this aircraft delivered..."

The youngest-ever black professor at Cambridge University is accused of plagiarizing his academic writing. The University of Cambridge has launched an investigation into media darling Jason Arday. Cambridge is investigating various allegations, including a claim by Arday that he ran 600 miles in 6 days to raise money for charity. The Telegraph reports that they found about 100 passages in Arday's PhD that were published by someone else six years before. Arday resigned from the University after the investigation was announced. In 2023, Arday was praised by the media for his "achievement."

"Carol Vorderman MBE formally comes to the end of her 10 year commission after becoming the first female Honorary Group Captain and Ambassador for the RAF Air Cadets in its history in 2014." After a properly lovely chat and a cuppa with Chief of Air Staff Sir Rich Knighton and his immensely kind words last week, I'm a very happy woman. I've been formally involved in RAF Air Cadets and other aspects of RAF life for 10 years which has gone like the wind (no pilot pun intended). I am a pilot with a degree in Engineering, and have been a huge supporter of STEM & young people and education all of my life & I felt I could help as the first female Ambassador for RAF Air Cadets. Both of my children were cadets and Katie spent 4 years in RAF Air Squadron when she was at Cambridge. It’s been a wonderful 10 years and every moment spent with our Cadets & the incredible volunteers who run it at squadron level has been special, from being on camp with them at RIAT Royal International Air Tattoo to witnessing the incredible Musical abilities of so many young bands, from Space Camp, and them lining the red carpet and being on stage with me at the Pride of Britain Awards, to taking them to America to celebrate the F-35’s early days with Lockheed Martin. The 1 Group Carol Vorderman Award was created for the person within 1 Group who has voluntarily provided exemplary work for the Air Cadets each year and I felt hugely honoured for that. Thank you Air Cadets for some wonderful memories. I wish you all the very best for the future. But my association doesn't end here. I've worked with RAF Charities for almost 20 years including helping to raise money for the Bomber Command Memorial in Green Park. Hosting the Salute Area on the day of the memorial’s unveiling was an extraordinary honour. Here's to a vibrant future. Just a TINY number of happy pics from over the years.

Gun camera footage of M. M. Alam’s first kill on 6 September. On the way to attack Adampur Air Base, the formation encountered IAF Hunters. Squadron Leader A. K. Rawlley did not survive the engagement. The Beas river is visible in the background. I would be eager to hear from any veterans or their families who might have preserved such footage. It would help enrich future editions of the PAF history book.

State media of the Islamic regime of Iran has broadcast this footage, claiming that the Iranian Air Force is preparing for war. However, the reality is very different, this was recorded during the last gunnery exercise of the Iranian Air Force just a few months before 2025 war. Most of the fighter jets shown in this video, as well as many of the hardened aircraft shelters visible, have already been destroyed. For example, the Iranian Air Force no longer operates any F-4D Phantom IIs. The F-5E/F Tiger IIs featured in this footage were based at the 2nd Tactical Fighter Base in Tabriz, which was heavily targeted by the Israeli Air Force, and all of them were destroyed. Today, the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force has only a handful of flyable fighter jets remaining, and they are used primarily for ceremonial purposes rather than sustained combat operations.

Watch 'Kargil@25: Valour and Sacrifice' With Vishnu Som At the height of the Kargil War in 1999, Squadron Leader Ajay Ahuja, flying a MiG-21, was searching for Flight Lieutenant K Nachiketa, an Indian MiG-27 pilot who had ejected. Sqn Ldr Ahuja was himself forced to eject when Pak surface-to-air missiles struck his aircraft. The brave Squadron Leader was captured by Pakistani forces and shot dead. Sq Ldr Ahuja's widow looks back at the life and times of her husband, whose first love was always fighter-flying.
