Also important to know that for decades prior, indigenous kids were enrolled by parents who wanted education for them. Parents like the grandparents of Ellis Ross. The MP, was raised by parents who went to residential school and raised him to be independent, not DEPENDENT on the gov. When he served as Chief Councillor of the Haisla Nation, Ross helped his community become more independent and escape poverty through economic development. Making them less bound by the Indian Act.
