I was watching this video by Rainmatter Foundation about how Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad) cleaned up the Kham river in 5 years. It had become a sewage drain, and they turned it back into a flowing river. Made me think about especially of Delhi's air quality problem. They mapped 249...

This is so good. Delhi doesn't just need solution for Air Quality but also need to treat Yamuna River. & as a matter of fact, India can grow a lot more. ✅ Clean the rivers ( Sambhajinagar has done the great work. Even Ahmedabad did it successfully ) ✅ Work on controlling the pollution ✅ Make cities greener & clean ( can learn from Indore ) ✅ Encourage public transport ✅ Revive river bodies ( @artofliving_sp is doing great work in this. Have revived 1000+ water bodies, 70+ rivers ) India should focus on this, development will follow with it.

@RainmatterOrg Yes. I live in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and a skeptic mediaperson in me initially laughed at the project, presuming this will be another static case of public money in drain. But administration, volunteers and concerned citizens did it! Kudos.

The problem is that in the big metros, everyone thinks they are a Limited Partner ... they put in the money (taxes) but don't want any involvement in the day-to-day operations of not trashing the place. In Delhi, if u fly a drone to find the source of pollution, the drone just gets depressed, coughs twice, and falls out of the sky from sheer AQI-induced existential dread!😂

You can’t do anything unless you fill vacant positions in Regulatory bodies Nearly 50% of posts in panels on pollution control vacant While many STPs exist, significant capacity is missing, and many built plants are non-operational or inefficient, failing to meet standards. Over 75% of sewage in the Ganga basin flows untreated, with cities dumping billions of liters daily, turning tributaries like Assi and Varuna into open drains.

@RainmatterOrg Follow @cleanAirBharat to understand the problem as a problem well defined is half solved. we need governance, skilled people, systems, KRAs, accountability, and the budget to run our cities. Most municipalities lack most / all of these. DM if you want to make a difference.

@RainmatterOrg Hi Nithin, If Rain Matter Co were to take up one true dream project, it would be restoring the Vrushabhavathi River in Bengaluru. Imagine a clean, flowing river through the city, with families gathering along its banks for picnics and leisure, it would be truly transformative.

@RainmatterOrg Thank you @Nithin0dha. Keeping it simple/real, getting our basics right, stemming the pollution, reconnecting the community to the river, managing stakeholders, it's all doable. Most importantly, having a rock solid funding @VarrocGlobal partner has been key to the success so far

@RainmatterOrg You are right. Why don’t you start with your Zerodha installing giant air purifiers or Smog filters in NCR as part of CSR initiative? I am sanguine that it will yield small but considerable results. #AirPollution @anandmahindra you may also come together for this cause Sir.

I landed in Delhi last night , anticipating extremely hostile air, as per social media. Found it was exactly the same as kolkata if not worse, but a bit drier. Then I looked at AQI across all major tier 1 and 2 cities in India, pakistan and bangaladesh, from Delhi, lahore, bilaspur, dhaka , dehradun... Each and every city has more or less similar AQI considering everything. With that limited knowledge, I believe that the pollution is more of a systemic problem of the developing countries in this part of the world, but delhi gets used as a PR tool for political opposition. Definitely it can change, but , the political narrative around it needs to go too.. Else the problem is more valuable than the solution for a significant amount of decision makers.

@RainmatterOrg We can find solutions for most of the problems. But do we have political will to do it ? Secondly do our politicians really care for environment?

Are we as citizens even ready? I see this in Hyderabad every day—people throwing trash on roads and dumping waste into drains. Fences are built to stop it, and people just throw garbage over them. Before blaming any government, we should ask ourselves: are we ready to be organised and responsible citizens?

🌐🆘Tisza: Tons of garbage are flowing from Ukraine to Hungary – extreme pollution again in February 2026. At the end of February 2026, the Tisza River is once again bringing huge amounts of garbage from Ukraine to Hungary, causing serious environmental damage downstream. According to footage shared on social media and in the Hungarian media, the flooded Tisza is carrying large piles of plastic bottles, PET bottles, plastic bags, branches and other municipal waste, which mainly comes from the Ukrainian side of the Carpathians. The Hungarian daily Magyar Nemzet reported on February 26, 2026, that “tons of garbage” (tonnaszámnyi koládek) are flowing into the country, with the largest share being plastic bottles. The portal reported on the same day that the river was carrying “several tons of waste” from Ukraine, with videos posted on social media showing the critical situation – the water literally “rolling” piles of plastic and debris towards the Hungarian-Ukrainian border, especially in the Balsa area of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county. This phenomenon is not new, but the February 2026 wave was exacerbated by the rapid melting of snow and ice in the Carpathians and heavy rains in Transcarpathia. The roots of the problem lie in the inadequate waste management system in the mountainous regions of Ukraine and in the fact that during floods, waste from banks, illegal landfills and directly dumped waste enters the rivers. Ukrainian sources (e.g. the Novini Zakarpattya telegram channel) confirm that intense thawing and rains have caused a sudden increase in the amount of floating waste. The Tisza has been one of the most polluted rivers in Europe with plastic waste for decades. Approximately half of the waste comes from Ukraine (mainly from the Transcarpathian region), the other half from Romania (via tributaries such as Someș/Szamos). The war and economic crisis in Ukraine have further worsened the situation - the waste collection and disposal system has collapsed in many places and landfills overflow directly into the rivers during floods. The Hungarian authorities - the National Water Management Administration (Országos Vízügyi Főigazgatóság, OVF) - started collecting waste upstream on 25-26 February 2026 using floating waste collection devices. However, a long-term solution requires international cooperation between Ukraine, Romania and Hungary, as pollution crosses borders. The Tisza originates in the pristine Carpathian Mountains, but by the time it reaches Hungary, it carries tons of municipal waste with it. The current wave once again highlights that protecting the ecological state of the river is a shared responsibility and that simply eliminating the consequences is not enough – prevention at the source is the key.

Bangalore produces around 7,000 tonnes of waste a day, roughly 3,000 tonnes of that is wet waste. All of it has to be collected, segregated, and processed every single day. A lot of it still ends up badly treated or in a landfill. We got to know the Hasiru Dala Innovations team a few years ago. They've spent years doing the thankless part of this, collecting and segregating waste at scale. But wet waste has remained a problem. Dry waste has buyers. Wet waste goes bad too quickly to store, and composting it usually loses money. Carbon Masters takes that wet waste and turns it into biogas you can cook with. More importantly, they've made a business out of it. Put the two together, and it's fairly obvious. Hasiru Dala has the waste and knows how to sort it. Carbon Masters knows how to generate economic value out of it by generating biogas and organic manure. This problem goes beyond Bengaluru's garbage. India imports about 60% of our LPG and half our natural gas. Turning our own waste into fuel is about as self-reliant as it gets. We need more people working on hard problems like this. That’s also why we’ve backed both Hasiru Dala Innovations and Carbon Masters through Rainmatter by Zerodha. We spent some time at their Harohalli plant to understand how it all fits together for our latest Rainmatter Original. If you've ever wondered where the waste from our homes actually goes, this is worth a watch (full episode link in comments).🙂

Every Person In America Needs To Listen To This Video About What Really Happened In The UK, This Is Horrifying “Let me see if I got this straight. In the UK, you had roaming bands of Muslim migrants carrying pipes, machetes, and knives. And they were running around attacking British citizens for doing British things. And don't try to gaslight me and tell me that didn't f**cking happen because I saw the video. I saw the many videos of it happening. So it f**cking happened. The you had Muslim migrant groups running around attacking British citizens for just doing normal things. But they were attacking them because the things that the people were doing, the Muslim groups didn't feel was in line with Sharia law. They didn't feel that British citizens should have the right to drink beer, eat swine, and they attacked them for it. Like, right out and open in the street. They grabbed machetes and pipes and knives and waited outside pubs, daring people to drink beer. And your police didn't do a f**king thing. K. But then British citizens started posting about it on Facebook and X, and then your police took action. So even though they hadn't arrested any of these migrants who had cut, stabbed, or beat people, they managed to arrest the people who posted about it on Facebook and Twitter, and within 3 days, they managed to charge, process, try, and convict them while sentencing them to 20 plus years in prison for a Facebook post about the migrants attacking people and about the fact that the police aren't doing anything. And the British citizens who posted about it are going to prison for 2 decades because they said it was a bad thing. I am genuinely at a loss for words.”
