I would normally completely ignore stupid comments like this, but seeing as though he wants to know why I’m a primary school teacher, I thought I’d answer.

I've been a primary school teacher for 13 years and received a letter recently from a former pupil. I think it explains the reason I do this job better 🤝

How sad! What an awful way to think about young people and the men who dedicate their lives to working with them! Please keep being such a positive role model to the young people you work with and the adults you inspire.

Great reply. I once project managed a regen scheme on an inner city council estate and the local primary school asked for a breakfast club. An older guy volunteered, making toast and pouring milk. Best role model ever and much appreciated by the kids. Only adult male many saw.

Great response. It’s vital that all children have both positive male and female role models in their lives to shape them as balanced individuals.

My son has ADHD and struggled at school as a fidgety smartarse! His one male teacher at middle school changed everything. This teacher saw his abilities; academically bright but also great at drama and calmed his excesses. He awarded him student of the week and our son blossomed.

Sadly this does still happen. You would think we'd moved forward by now but unfortunately...

My son-in-law is a primary school teacher. Year 5/6 phase leader. My daughter teaches in a nearby secondary school. Both are so ideally suited to the age groups they teach.

Anyone who finds their calling is to support, nurture and educate our next generations can only be a very special kind of soul as far as I’m concerned. Teaching is a hugely responsible job, as much as we all joke (I know I do!) but when all is said and done it’s really important.

Well said!! I work with several male primary teachers and have seen first hand the positive impact they have, particularly on those children without a constant male figure in their lives. The world needs more Mr P’s 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

100% agree. What fuels the anti comments is that some adults in education demand to be called a specific title and punish children for not doing so. Has to be addressed. How does one phonetically pronounce Mx?

Warped is not the word.

We have 2 males teachers in our primary school and I really believe we should all have more. They bring a different presence and the children really benefit from that and it does them good!

I had this exact same problem when I became the only male teacher in a school 20 years ago. Huge amounts of suspicion and one parent outright calling me the worst possible words. Took a long time to be accepted.
