The U.S. Constitution requires Members of Congress to be paid, even during government shutdowns. If Members of Congress had to forfeit their pay during government shutdowns, there would be fewer shutdowns or they would end quicker. That’s why I’ve introduced a constitutional amendment that, if ratified, would bar Members of Congress from receiving a paycheck for the duration of a shutdown. It’s time Congress plays by the same rules as everyone else & we get back to work on behalf of the American people.

Air traffic controllers aren’t getting paid. Federal employees aren’t getting paid. Practically the only people in our government who ARE getting paid are members of Congress. That's why I brought two bills to the Senate floor to stop paying Congress during shutdowns.

🚨 Calling balls and strikes, this is a good bill from Leader John Thune. He just filed cloture to force a vote on a resolution to withhold Senators’ pay during any future government shutdown. If it passes, Senators’ paychecks get locked up in a vault until the shutdown ends. No back pay for them while furloughed workers and troops suffer. Will 7 Democrats have the guts to own shutdowns alongside our troops and first responders?!

Democrats are totally fine voting to shut down the government and take in a paycheck, while federal workers, their staff, and federal law enforcement go without. We need to pass my No Budget, No Pay Act to hold Congress accountable: either pass a budget or Congress should forgo their paychecks, too.

Did you know politicians in Congress are getting paid during the DHS shutdown while TSA agents don’t get paid? It’s ridiculous that Congress can fail but have no accountability. I have a way to fix it: the No Budget, No Pay Act. I want to fund ALL of DHS, but if Democrats want to fund TSA, they can get my vote with one condition: pass it with my No Budget, No Pay Act. We can pay TSA agents, but until Democrats agree to pay ALL federal workers - ICE & CBP included - Congress shouldn’t get paid either. Call your senator TODAY and demand we pass my bill.
