China has a large population. Even if they are poorer on average, or at the median, or at every percentile, they will still have a large number of rich people who will live in nice cities and buildings.

What if "communism" wasn't the deciding factor, but rather something more fundamental? 👇🏼 China has been succeeding because it put its people and humanity first as demonstrated by its government by continuely investing peoples taxes into things that benefit the people and humanity. A democracy could also work well if it also put its people first and demonstrates that it is able to invest peoples taxes to benefit the people. I think putting people and humanity first is something most of the world can agree on regardless of nationality, ethnicity, religion, etc...

China makes iPhones, but they feel no need to “steal” that, opting to develope Huawei; China has Tesla factories, but doesn’t “steal” that, opting to build far superior EV designs. But the main thing is not buzzwords like “freedom” or “capitalism” or “communism,” but rather that as Alexander Hamilton defined in his Reports on Manufacturing/National Banking, a nation that has an interest in the General Welfare of its citizens, invests in those technologies, industries, etc that BENEFIT its CITIZENS. America, Europe went off the rails when we went away from that idea as defined in its founding documents. Thus, China wins, regardless of the label.

China stopped trying Marxism-Leninism in 1978. No nation has ever really been communist because Marxism is impossible to actually implement so all you get is a brutal totalitarian regime and slaves instead of willing workers. Revolutionaries always believe mass murder is justified if they really believe it's "for the revolution." They then find out that nothing can really be produced under the whip, so they eventually collapse. Mao was leading China down that fanatical path. After he was safely dead and his minions eliminated, China turned to a Fascist economic model to open up foreign trade and use slave labor controlled by the state.
