The reported penalties under the Chhattisgarh Dharm Swatantraya Vidheyak, 2026 range from 7 to 10 years in prison, rise to 10 to 20 years in certain cases involving vulnerable groups, and extend to life imprisonment for reported “mass conversion” cases. The message is that alleged conversion through coercion, fraud, inducement, marriage, or digital means will be treated as a serious offence, not as something that can be repackaged as charity or social outreach.
