Without proper investigation professor accusing his own student for cheating. Wow. It is practice that when anyone get caught cheating is being documented and cheat and gadgets are taken into custody and take students signature, was this process followed? Answer is big NO.

Students from various backgrounds came out in support of Professor Doolla and stood in solidarity with him. Some IIT Bombay students are now openly saying that casteism had nothing to do with Sahil Wakode’s suicide. One student even said that Professor Suryanarayana Doolla should never have been suspended. When a Lokmat reporter kept pushing the caste angle, the student got angry and said, "Nothing like this happens at IIT Bombay." His point was clear: Sahil was caught cheating, so of course the professor would scold him. His death is tragic, but that doesn’t mean the professor was at fault.

#WATCH | Mumbai: IIT Bombay student suicide | On the allegations against Professor Suryanarayana Doolla, Professor Dr. Rajkumar Pant, President of the Faculty Forum, IIT Bombay, says, "Like every institute, we have a dedicated SC/ST cell for the welfare of students of that particular category... I spoke to the institute's Deputy Director, Professor Ravindra Gudi, about it, and he confirmed to me that the SC/ST cell issued a notice—stating that there was absolutely no attempt by the late Sahil to approach the cell over the last three or four months. No complaint was recorded by him—forget about a formal complaint; he had not even approached the SC/ST cell for anything... Our only point is that we are teachers, and we are discharging our duties as mandated by the institute while following institute procedures. Professor Doolla did the same... He was the Dean of Student Affairs before taking up his current position as Dean of Academic Affairs. So, to expect that a person of his nature—who is known to be very helpful to students—would do this is unreasonable... There are some situations where one has to act firmly, and he acted firmly as per the rules. But I am personally convinced that he is not the kind of person who would indulge in these kinds of acts... I see no merit in this claim. Still, I do not want to comment further on what has been reported. There is an FIR, and the law will take its own course. I think the Mumbai Crime Branch is investigating, so we have nothing to comment on that matter. The norms of society and the institute are very clear that we cannot tolerate cheating. Now, if a faculty member sees someone misusing facilities and resorting to unfair means, taking no action would be unfair to the majority of students who do not cheat..."

Student Suicide at IIT-Bombay If someone is cheating and using ChatGPT or something, the professor would have done it regardless of who the student is or what community he or she comes from. Mumbai, Maharashtra: A relative of 20-year-old IIT Bombay student Sohil Sangwan, who allegedly died by suicide on July 28, said, "My nephew was studying here; he was a second-year student. His name is Sohil Sangwan. He had recently visited home during his vacation, returning on July 25th, and this incident took place on July 28th. Even now, we do not know why he died by suicide. Neither the police nor the IIT institute administration is giving us clear answers. So far, we haven't received the boy's laptop, phone, or any documents. We demanded the classroom CCTV footage. The day this incident occurred, prior to his death, he had not attended class for two days. Our question is: if he had not been attending class for two days, what was the reason? Someone should have looked after him. We live 2,000 kilometres away in Rajasthan. We entrusted our child to IIT. Now, when we question them closely, they try to dismiss it, suggesting there was an issue with a girl, or that it was a family problem. He was a 20-year-old healthy young man. If there was a family issue, just imagine—could someone with family issues or girl problems clear the exam and reach IIT?..."

The solidarity protest that took place in support of Professor Doolla—there wasn't a single professor involved in it. It consisted entirely of people brought in from outside. An attempt was made to create the impression that Professor Doolla is a very good person and that people ought to support him. In reality, neither students nor professors support him; in fact, if students were to support him, they would have done so from day one. Instead, they have been the ones protesting most vehemently against him, demanding his suspension and termination."
