I’m pretty sure this isn’t allowed? Impressive though.

Can switch within the inning as long as he declares what hand he’s pitching with before each at bat. Cannot alternate within a single at bat unless there’s an injury. Definitely an Impressive feat — am I missing how old this kid is? Looks like 12u (ish)?

Ball knower here: this is absolutely allowed. The only rule (at least in professional baseball) is they have to use the same arm the entire at bat. It’s called the Vanditte rule, named for an amphibious pitcher who had a solid career with the A’s, Red Sox and Blue Jays.

100% allowed. However, this one time I will forgive you bc you used the degeneration X music bringing me straight back to the attitude era 😂

Perfectly legal. Pitcher must declare which hand they will throw with before each batter, and must continue with that hand for each at bat. Perfectly alright to change between at bats though.

You can. I think you have to announce or show the ump your switching. I know you can’t in the middle of the at bat

Does he get double the pitch count?

It’s allowed. Pitcher must choose at the beginning of the at-bat. The pitcher can’t change sides until the next batter.

It is allowed under 2 conditions: you have to pitch with the same arm for the entire batter (can't switch mid at bat), and you also have make it clear which arm you are throwing with

Definitely allowed, my only question is how it impacts pitch count at that age.

Why pitch lefty to the first two right handed batters?

Adam Swidler's profile picture

Seth, do you remember Pat Venditte? He would declare to the ump which hand he was using before each at bat.

Why wouldn’t it be allowed

North Lincoln had one this year that did this. Had the 6-finger glove. Must declare before first pitch of each batter.

Definitely allowed. Just can't switch during the at bat.

Aren’t familiar with Pat Venditte and the rule that was instituted specifically for him but applies to all others, including jurrangelo cijntje?

You just have to declare before the at bat which he does by switching gloves.

Would there really be a difference at this age when facing a lefty vs a righty? I can’t imagine whatever benefit there might be is worth it.

I’m sure you’re mistaken and this is completely legal.

It is allowed, you just have to declare which side you’re pitching from before the AB starts

I’ve seen pitches with a glove that can be worn on both hands. League specific I guess
