Imagine being a kid in 1976 seeing this... SOUND UP!
46 Yorum

Without the John Williams score, the film seems much darker!

It's easy to be critical knowing what it is now. But in 1976/77, there had never been a movie like this before! Everyone was completely blown away.

I don't have to. I was that kid.

Gosh they really under sold it with this trailer. I first saw it on tv in the 80s. Absolutely edge of the seat stuff from start to finish as a child

They still did a pretty miraculous job considering most of the effects were not completed, and neither was the music.

Fair enough, I didn’t know that

LOL - some of us were actually there. I was 10 years old. If you didn't experience it, there is no way to describe the sound of the star destroyer coming up on you from behind. It was phenomenal.

“Don’t have to imagine because I was there!” 🍺😎👍🏾

We heard that! It's about freaking time

I saw it theatrically (well, at the drive-in) during its original run, but even I can't imagine that because it wasn't released until 1977 😁

It wasn't released until 77, this teaser was released in 1976

I misinterpreted the context. my bad

I was that kid and it changed my world!

Especially miraculous since the film didn't come out until 1977

But this teaser came out in 1976, do your homework.

"homework" lol.

I was there and 9 years old. The opening gave you goosebumps. What a time to grow up in. 80s were the best.

I remember queuing up with my sisters back in ’77, the line stretching far outside the cinema and seeming to never end. After what felt like an eternity, we finally got inside, and then 'Star Wars' completely blew our minds. From that opening sequence, the sound design and John Williams’ music pulled us in instantly. It wasn’t just a film, it was an experience, and easily the best sci-fi movie of its era.

Now imagine you're 6 or 7 years old and your parents just dropped you off downtown with your slightly older brother...by yourselves...with money...at noon...and then your parents didn't pick you up until ten o'clock, and you and your brother watched Star Wars four times in a day!

It absolutely blew Gen Xers minds!! There really hasn't been a film that held as much excited promise since.. close, but not at that level! People forgot just how huge this film actually was!

I was 18. My friends and I thought it looked dreadful. We mocked the trailer relentlessly. Of course then the movie came out and we were blown away. So I have learned never to trust a trailer.

People got to experience really cool things back then. Never done before, all practical, it must have felt like magic 💯

I was 11. Realize, you only saw that preview in the theater, not like today where you’d see it incessantly, so you had little idea what to expect. Nothing prepared you for seeing the whole movie…once that crawl started with the music, you were hooked and it never let up.

I was and I did - but was released 1978 here in Australia. I was eight. My father and grandfather took my brother and I to see it. My grandfather though it WAS filmed in outer space bless him.

Fox thought it was going to be a mediocre success, or possibly flop, they were not prepared

@GidgitVonLaRue HUGH thanks goes to Alan Ladd Jr who steadfastly fought for George when the Fox execs doubted and pressured him.

@horrormuseum ABSOLUTELY. He was really the last great movie studio head.

On a kid level, it seemed life changing. An incredible theatric experience over and over that summer. And collecting the figures for years. I had 'em all, too young to know to keep them.

We couldn't wait, believe you me! Can't believe it's gonna be 50 years since I sat at the Loews Astor Plaza in NYC and saw it 3 times that week. Still have my original program!

No need to imagine... I saw it in theaters.

I was one of those kids. I would end up seeing it in theaters twice in the same day when it was released. As a 7 year old boy, I was hooked right away and couldn't get enough of it.

I was one of those kids.

Don't need to imagine. I was there.

Back then I stood all day in line to see it, going back over and over to watch it again and again for a total of 15 times because it would be months before it was on VHS.

We didn't have a tv so my first exposure was after waiting a few hours in a massive line around the Century 21 theater in San Jose. Had no idea what to expect, my exposure to scifi was limited, and it remains the single greatest movie experience of my life.

stunk then. still stinks.

Bet you are fun at parties

Good one. I am not.

I thought it was all real when I was a kid

I don't need to imagine. I was five years old in 1977, when Star Wars was released. It is the earliest memory I have I going to the movies. I even remember waiting in the queue, looking at the cardboard standup advertising.

She kissed him. I thought I remembered this, but after they changed the films in the late 90s it was hotly denied.

I saw it like 20 times in the movie theater when it came out.

Don't have to imagine. I was 10 when I saw it for the first time. Changed my life.

Terrible teaser, too many spoilers.

It was 1977, and my 7 year old ass was there opening night.

I was
