Sunscreen causes skin cancer: 1) Skin cancers were rare among fair-skinned populations until the 1950s, the same decade sunscreens became popular. 2) Early sunscreens blocked UVB, which causes sunburn, yet failed to block UVA, which causes wrinkles and skin cancer. 3) Modern sunscreens often contain known carcinogens, such as Benzene, oxybenzone, and avobenzone, and some still only screen UVB. 4) Our bodies are designed to react when over-exposed to the sun, and can adapt over time if we heed these natural warning signals, rather than relying solely on sunscreens.

This settlement is less impressive when considering that 76,000 plaintiffs have been in litigation for a full decade, bearing the costs of cancer treatment during that time. Each will receive only $36,000, approximately. In 2020, Johnson & Johnson was ordered to pay $2.1 billion to 22 plaintiffs after a jury found the company's talc-based baby powered caused them to develop ovarian cancer.
