#WATCH | Reasi bus terror attack: Ranjit Singh, Manager of the Bus Booking Company whose bus came under attack, says, "The bus used to ply from Katra to Shiv Khori daily, booking occurred daily. But we had never thought that this could happen to our vehicle. We used to hear of things like this in Kashmir but this area was safe. We never thought that this could happen to us. As soon as the bus left in the morning, we received a call at 5 o'clock that there had been firing on our vehicle...When we did a little investigation, we came to know that it was an attack by militants...Passengers told us that the militant got into the bus and told the driver to make the passengers deboard the bus. Driver sensed that the man was a militant. He refused to make the passengers deboard, he sped up the bus. As soon as he sped up the bus, the militant fired a bullet. The bus lost balance but the driver kept driving. When the driver didn't stop, he (militant) shot him in the head and killed him...Then the conductor took hold of the steering. As soon as he did that, the militant shot 3-4 bullets at the conductor too. He killed them both. The bus lost balance and fell into a gorge. Faced with the possibility of a catastrophic crash, he deliberately steered the bus into a roadside wall, saving the lives of all 34 passengers on board. But in doing so, he lost his own life. As the bus struck the wall, the driver’s side door reportedly opened, throwing him out before the rear wheel ran over him. Today, 34 families are safe because one man chose duty over self-preservation. And while Uttarakhand mourns a brave driver, difficult questions also need to be asked. I traveled from Chennai to my village in Tiruvannamalai District, and I must say, the road infrastructure in Tamil Nadu is fantastic. Today, I arrived in Chennai for the first time since 2022. Typically, I take NH45 up to Arcot and then the SH Arni route to Polur. However, today Google Maps suggested the Melmaruvathur route (SH115) as a shorter option, so we decided to give it a try. This route is actually the 148 bus route to Polur via Utthiramerur. We took the Chennai-Trichy (GST route) up to Melmaruvathur and then continued via SH 115 to Polur. I was pleasantly surprised to see the newly constructed road. Additionally, every bus stop along this route has toilets on both sides. I noticed that Vanthavasi and Chetpet now have bypass access as well. 3 hours pleasant journey. Thanks to the State Highway Department, Tamil Nadu.

One year ago today, our community at the Embassy of Israel lost two of our beloved members—Sarah Milgrim and Yaron Lischinsky—in a heinous terror attack. A year later, we remember the light they brought into our lives and we mourn the hole in our hearts that they left behind.
