That's the only reason. If you only want the people to vote that should be voting, you ask for ID, just like you ask for ID for everything else. We show ID to rent apartments, buy cars, purchase homes, open bank accounts, and handle our finances every day. Requiring voter ID is not oppression — it’s about protecting the integrity of our elections. Black Americans should not be used as a political shield. Here in this country, elections are administered by states and localities, and each state and locality has the ability to determine what is the most appropriate form of voter ID that should be required for their citizens to participate in voting in that state. New York State has very strong voter ID laws, which I support, and which facilitate voting in a way that allows for maximum participation by citizens while, at the same time, ensuring that elections are free and fair. This is a states’ rights issue. What happened to the days when Republicans actually supported states’ rights?
