My mom taught me to get a spatula and a cup and just scrape that oil right off the countertop into the cup. A wet, soapy dishrag gets the residue. Faster, and free.

2 paper towels and quick wipe with a damp towel with a little dish soap would have been more efficient than half a box of baking soda.

Yeah, no… have you ever cleaned up a big pile of baking soda? That stuff will be everywhere for weeks. Residue on the counter, sink, blowing around on the floor. Don’t try vacuuming it bc it goes through the filter and blows out even wider than your original pile.
