John: There is a lot of opposition to building in America, broadly. That's just the nature of our society. I was thinking about, what do Americans want to build? Because it's easy to look at the data center stuff and be like, "Well, everyone's against building data centers." I was reflecting on the whole reindustrialization meme this weekend. And I was thinking about the actual knock-on effects of reindustrialization — most people don't want a car factory in their town. I actually think people don't really want change. They don't want things built. Data centers are probably at the bottom of the list. They're the least popular. But people don't want stuff built, generally. There are very few things that people are like, "Yeah, I'd be down for that to be built." People like the status quo. They're happy with things as they are. And they don't like change. People block home construction all the time. Also, permitting and expansion of existing homes. I'm not saying that they're as unpopular as data centers. Data centers are at the bottom. But new housing in communities is like razor's edge. I do think there's an element of like, Americans don't want to build anything.

I think the fact is there are only going to be four or five of these companies that are able to raise the billions required to build the infrastructure to support these models. It's a global competition, and particularly against the Chinese right now because they're trying to beat us on AI, because the country with the best AI is gonna win all the wars. That's what's gonna happen. I think at the end of the day you want diversification in your portfolio, not just one stack. For me, I'm playing the picks and shovels. I'm building energy because you need energy for this stuff, and I'm building data centers. Now, there are different things, but right now we need more electrical power in this country beyond just data centers. We just need power because we got a booming economy.

There are 470 in China. We've already won the AI war. My grandfather was a computer science major at Florida Atlantic University about 30 minutes south of here in Boca. And he would tell you that in the 1970s and 80s, computers were the size of Costco warehouses and now those same computers fit in our pocket. Why are we building an AI data center that in five years is going to be obsolete, is going to be one one hundredth of the size. And so I fear it's because a lot of the big land developers want to buy up cheap land, flip it for the next AI data center. So it's a greedy thing. It's a greed thing. And I don't want that to happen in our state because you know what? If you buy something and you screw up, you can return it. You could sell it. If you pave over citrus groves or the Everglades or a wetlands to build the data center, you cannot easily undo that. And so I don't want our farmers, I don't want our rural towns to be run roughshod over. My opponent, Byron Donalds, will say, well, what about the AI data center? Don't they have property rights? Saying "NO AI data centers" won't end in victory. They'll just build them anyways. If you truly want to make a difference, you need to say, "No data centers, UNLESS..." Turn it into a negotiation instead of a war, so we can fight over what really matters. No data centers UNLESS they're not draining our energy. In fact, you could say, "you want 10 gigawatts of power? Ok, YOU pay for it. And because we’re allowing you to do it, you have to produce 15 gigawatts of power and give the excess to the grid." It's a win-win and YOU control the terms.

In this war the number one precision missile attacks were around data centers. So if you look at what was attempted by Iran, it was to knock out the data centers in various countries in addition to energy. So what do you need to fight tomorrow's war? Let's, let's say the Chinese wanna take over Singapore. That's pure AI. You're gonna use drones. We know that already. They're very effective, low cost. You're gonna take out data centers, chip manufacturing. When you start to think about investing, and that's what I'm thinking about, I hate warfare obviously, but what does this tell me? The country with the most capacity for data centers and AI, is going to win the wars in the future.
