"There's this notion that .. the software industry is in decline and will be replaced by AI. You could tell because there's a whole bunch of software companies whose stock prices are under a lot of pressure. Because somehow AI is going to replace them. It is the most illogical thing in the world and time will prove itself. .. If you were an artificial general intelligence, would you use the tools like ServiceNow and SAP and Cadence and Synopsys? Or would you reinvent a calculator? Of course, you would just use a calculator."

But on the whole, it seems that the Jevons paradox—which dictates that as the cost of writing software falls, the amount of software written goes up—is actually playing out. If an XYZ company, which is a product company, was spending, say, $100 million on writing software and can now do it for $70 million, they might need to lay off some people; that is their business priority. But if the amount of software written goes up three to four times, the number of software engineers in the ecosystem will not change… This panic and paranoia about massive job losses is something that I think is, at this stage, unfounded.”

The average person will soon be as capable as what a senior software engineer is today, as we shift from doing the work to directing it. Instead of coding line by line, you’ll run multiple agents in parallel, building the frontend, refactoring the database, shipping features, all in the background. On top of that, you’ll have a clean interface to design and interact with AI more creatively. Software creation is moving from execution to orchestration, and soon, it won’t be a specialised skill, it’ll be the baseline.

This is how computers are going to work in the future. This is Agentic AI. For two years, we've been building toward this, and now it has arrived. Therefore, all the software companies are going to go out of business.” This is exactly the opposite.
