The painful last journey home as ambulances carrying the bodies of Malawi’s Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima, former First Lady Shanil Muluzi, and eight others killed with them in a military aircraft in Mzuzu line up at a local aerodrome in Raiply where their bodies will be flown from to Lilongwe. Here is a summary account by one person who was at the crash site. “1. The search team(s) was/were at Raiply, waiting for instructions. 2. A local Councillor got a call from a timber maker/sawyer (soyala wa matabwa) from the Nthungwa area of Chikangawa asking about the story he was hearing about a missing plane. 3. The timberman then alerted the Councillor that in fact they had seen something that looked like a wreckage of a plane in the area. 4. The Councillor then alerted the Police. 5. The Police informed the search part(ies) at Raiply. 6. The search team then started off heading for Nthungwa. 7. Upon arrival some people started taking pictures and circulating them. 8. The Malawi Defence Force personnel then ordered them to stop taking pictures and to clear from the site. By this time groups of civilians had already reached and viewed the site. 9. Dr. Chilima's body and two other bodies were lying outside the plane. Some five or so bodies were in the front side inside the plane, and three were in the backside inside the plane. 10. The front part of the plane was the most damaged, with the rear part looking a bit intact. 11. Alex Bowman says that his wreck at Michigan last year did "just as much damage" as the 2023 sprint car crash he hurt his back in when I asked the extent to which the latter injury has lingered. That being said, Bowman maintained that his timeline for retirement would've been the same regardless of whether he's dealt with injuries or not. Mid-30s was always his target to be done with racing full-time.

The event broke the world record for the largest speed dating event based on earlier entries in Guinness World Records. Candid Dating, a platform co-founded by Taylor O’Brien, led the speed dating event. Candid hosts weekly virtual speed dating for Catholic singles, and SEEK provided a chance to create real connections in person. “Success can look different for everyone. For some, it’s gaining experience and confidence in talking to others — men or women,” O’Brien said. “For others, it might be building the courage to ask for someone’s number or feeling secure and confident present themselves as a whole person.” She added that another goal for some could be marriage, reflecting the previous year’s several couples who have since become engaged.
